I am a 24 year old female who has just been diagnosed with PCOS.
I have no idea how long I have actually had PCOS however, symptoms seemed to come on so quickly for me.
My biggest concern was my weight gain. I have always been an athelete and extremely active. In the last 8 months I have gained 80lbs (from my normal 115 weight). I still like to be active and play sports but it is much harder for me now.
I also was diagnosed with hoshimots hypo thyroid... but when I got asecond oppinion... I was told I did NOT have it.... so I am not really sure whether or not I have a thyroid disorder. Do many women with PCOS also have a thyroid disorder?
I have really just come on this site for information about this disorder and support.
I love forward to meeting you all!

I recently joined this forum also so i am a little new at all of this as well. I also gained 50 lbs in the last year or so and it all seems to be in my abdomen. literally almost everytime that i go to the doctor they ask me to have my thyroid checked and everytime they do not seem to find anything. yet i am still gaining a lot of weight. it is not fun so i completely understand how you feel. please keep in touch and we can come up with some ways together. i have heard that the adkins diet is the best thing for PCOSers. maybe we can start this together!
Hello and Welcome to SC! You'll love it here! The girls are great, and no matter what issues are getting you down (PCOS related or not), someone here has been through/is going through the same thing.
I'm sorry your symptoms came on quickly. Rapid weight gain is one of the possible nasty effects of PCOS. Unfortunately, I've always been heavy until this past year, when I began making lifestyle changes. With a balanced diet, exercise, and meds to control my PCOS, I've been able to lose weight. I'm not where I need to be, but like many cysters, I continue on my journey to control both my weight and PCOS symptoms.
I personally don't have a thyroid problem, but there's a forum here on SC dedicated to thyroid problems. Hopefully you will find some valuable information there.
I've found an incredible amount of support and information here, and I hope you do too!
