Default Just diagnosed and scared

Well, I knew what the results of the tests were before i even got them, and I was ok with it at the Dr's office, I was ok with it all that afternoon, but last night and all today I've cried. This is scary, diabetes can be fatal! Talk about getting hit by a ton of bricks!

Sorry to hear about the diabetes. If you take care of yourself and follow everything that needs to be done, I sure you will be fine. My mother has lived with diabetes for several years, and I am on my way to having it also. I understand your concern. Hopefully with everything that we do, we can take care and that it will not get to bad. Please take care, and you are welcome to talk to me anytime you need to.

I can understand your dilemma - I was just diagnosed with "a touch of diabetes.." (What IS that anyway?.... ) this past week. Like you, I knew it, too. But, it doesn't make it easier hearing it from the professionals, you know?

I knew my own body, that something was wrong, and have seen first hand the complications that diabetes can cause. But, I've seen people live long lives with it, too. I'm trying to remain positive -- at least I now know why I feel so bad and I am the only one who can make it better - by making better food choices and increasing my activities (Note: in my world, "diet" and "excercise" are not really popular so I don't use them here.)

One thing I also found interesting is a thought expressed to me yesterday by a colleague and friend who goes to the gym, loses weight and is really positive (don't you just hate her already!! ). She told me not to let my past influence my future -- shrug off all of the other attempts and look at them as learning experiences. She had tried over the years to lose the extra weight she gained in pregnancy and from a sedentary lifestyle. She says that if you dwell on the past, you won't be able to make positive future changes. It's all in your attitude -- and the first little steps you take. I think it good advice and thought I'd pass it on....

Best of luck to you..

Thank you so much for your positiveness (is that a word?)! I catch myself thinking.."Why me?" and "what next?"....when i should really be taking this for what its for. Its my body telling me to treat it better, not some evil joke God is laughing at me for.
I am trying to look at the good stuff, like how great its going to be to feel healthy again, to have energy and possibly lose some of the extra weight. Another thing i often thought to myself was "if it hurts this much to be 29, what will 60 feel like?" I'm glad I have the chance to reverse that.
