I am 26, not overweight, have the acne and a little of the hair issue, had a miscarriage 12/05. Haven't had a period (except a Provera induced one) in six months. Saw a RE yesterday, he says it's most likely PCOS. I've got the tests coming up to confirm.
I'm really scared of what's next. I know this doesn't mean I can't have children, but I'm scared to death of having another miscarriage and reading about Metformin isn't really reassuring me that much.
Welcome!!
PCOS is a complex issue!! Most of us have learned that we have to be our own advocate in this.. My favorite on this site, is on the forum 'Research 4PCOS' forum. the thread is titled " required reading".. it's a sticky near the top.. it's written by an endo Dr. Lengthy, but a good read. Explains all the ways PCOS and how it affects us differently. Don't be afraid to ask questions.. one of the cysters will know.. They're wonderful.
see you on the boards!
These ladies are right. PCOS doesn't even mean that you'll have trouble getting pg. Lots of ladies don't. Spend some time reading posts or articles posted on here and you'll find lots of helpful info. I just got diagnosed about 5 months ago and have learned soooo much since then. At the time, I was scared and concerned. There's a lot dr's can do now though. Welcome to SC!

By the way, I'm also 26 and not overweight. I was put on Metformin (generic of Glucophage in January and am on my 5th cycle since being on Met. I had very irregular cycles before than unless I was on bcp. One time when I got off bcp, I didn't have a cycle for 6 months and even then it was only because I was put back on bcp.
Have a wonderful weekend!

I was typing your email to this site 6 weeks ago. I am so sorry about your recent loss and your diagnosis. The best thing you can do is be the most informed patient you can be by reading this site top to bottom and left to right and hearing from others how this effects them, what works for them...etc...I mean NO disrespect but your doctor will never be able to give you the detailed information about PCOS that you will find here from people who actually LIVE with it. TRY your best not to borrow worries and get down. And I am not advising your situation because clearly I am not a doctor...but the first time I saw my doctor she told us not to get prego because we'd miscarry because I was soooo low in progresterone...the second time we saw her she basically said start trying and if we get prego to call her and she'd get me doing progesterone so we wouldn't miscarry. Who knows what your particular hormone situation is...but know that we can be treated and from what I understand...there are scads of PCOS ladies who can have wonderfully healthy babies. And there are some that cannot. The fact that you at least can have a period is good news. The first night I was on this site I realized how many different 'levels' of PCOS there are...there are some ladies who haven't had a period in years or ever. I actually asked my new doc about this a few days ago...so do I have a severe case or a mild case? She said since you are able to have a period I would classify this as mild and your chances of having a baby are probably pretty good. Who knows! Just know you are NOT alone and we're always here for a chat if you need it.

I am new to this forum but not new to PCOS. Like most of the ladies have said, try not to get bogged down with it....get informed. I am sorry to hear about your miscarriage...it must be awful. I have not had a miscarriage but I do rememeber being diagnosed with PCOS aged 25, slim, occasional spots and not as hairy as I am now! I was due to get married three months after my diagnosis and I almost called the wedding off because I did not want to marry Hubby if I could not have kids! I have gone through bad times getting bogged down with it, wondering if I would have kids (now mum to 18 month old son and working on no.2). At my lowest point I remember sitting outside a laser hair removal clinic having been told that actually laser hair removal is NOT permenant and crying at the prospect of spending the rest of my life shaving/waxing/younameititriedit. I felt like a man, no kids at the time, no periods for months, stray hairs on my chin, bikini line down to my knees..... but it does get better (well the hairness doesn't) and without realising it now, I live with it and it does not bother me. I think at the time I was struggling with my sugar levels leaving my lethargic and down anyway.
Three years ago I read this site but did not feel comfortable talking about PCOS and hairness so I just read it, then I thought I was never going to have kids and I am a Mum now, plenty of us PCOSrs get there in the end we just have to work harder at it than most people.
