I was wondering what meds everyone is on. I was put on Lamictal, and Mirtazapine. What side effects should I expect from these. I have felt like I was drunk all day and couldn't even get out of bed for the most of it. I also slept for 16 hours! My husband is at his whits end, all I want to do is get better, but i feel like this is not going to work. Sorry this turned out to be a whine fest, I guess I just need a little encouragement and a whole lot of answers.

What dose of lamictal are you on? Since you have to go on it so slowly, it may take a while for it to help. I got absolutely no relief until I hit 100mg, then it was like a miracle drug. I doubt lamictal is causing the sleepiness--usually if anything it causes insomnia.
I don't know the other drug you're taking, but with the symptoms you're talking about you should check in with your doctor, let him/her know what's going on.
Med's can work wonders, but unfortunately the process of finding the right combination can be time consuming and frustrating.

I just had a med change and also just found out through my doc that Lamictal is more of a maintinence med then it is when you're having symptoms (explains why it wasn't helping me). The Lamictal never made me tired and I was up to 200mg starting off at 25mg. I'm now taking Topamax, Seroquel, and Ativan. The Ativan is just as needed for anxiety. My doctor warned me in advance that it was going to be sedating and I'll tell you what, it sure is but this will subside and she's keeping an eye on me. Hopefully this is going to be the right cocktail of meds for me and I'll be back to baseline soon
I was diagnosed in 2003 and it's amazing how much you learn over time about the disorder/illness/whatever you feel like calling it that day. Keep your head up, stay in touch with your doctor and therapist (if you've got one). And feel free to send me a message if you ever have a qestion maybe I can help you on or if you just need to vent
I have never taken either of the medications that you are on, but I looked up some info on the Mirtazapin. It's brand name is Remeron. Some of the side effects are drowsiness, increased appetite, and weight gain, so if you are already overweight or are trying to lose weight, this might not be the antidepressant for you. I take Zoloft and Seroquel and I am very stable on them. It took a while to get me on something that kept me stable and didn't give me weird side effects (Risperdal caused me to lactate).

the Mirena IUD and I love it!!!
Remeron (Mirtzapine) will make you very sleepy. I took it @ night time and it would knock me out. I also gained alot of weight on it. In small doses, like 7.5mg it is used in some nursing homes to stimulate appetite. Suppposedly the higher dose you go to the less sleepy and the less it stimulates your appetite. That is what my pysch told me, but it never worked that way. Maybe because of the PCOS?
I actually was just put on Lamictal. I haven't started it yet...

Thanks for all the responses , I am starting to feel a little better now. I am getting my sleeping under control. (i only slept 12 hours today lol) And I can now watch the new without crying! small things huh? What I have noticed now , is if I am startled in the least little way I have this tingly feeling all over my body, kind of like someone got me with one of those trick buzzer things. I hope that goes away soon , it is very annoying. I feel like I am going to jump out of my skin every time the phone rings!

Hang in there, a lot of side effects clear up once your body/brain are used to the drugs, but do talk to your doctor about any side effects (or even crazy stuff you don't think are side effects) that you're experiencing.
