Hi! I was on another forum (MDC) in the pregnancy forum actually & we were chatting about excessive hair growth - one poster who is a member here mentioned PCOS & gave a link to this wonderful site. The more I started thinking about my symptoms, the more I wondered if I might have PCOS. I'm a 28 yr old mama of two Dd's with another child due in March. I got my first period at 15.5 yrs of age & have never had regular cycles. In my teen yrs I would sometimes go for 3-4 months without a period. After having children, they have regulated a bit, but are still long cycles & not predictable (long as in 35-40 days.) Ever since puberty I've had lotsa hair. I remember asking my mom if I had a hot chocolate mustache when I was around 11-12 yrs old & she said "no, but you have a mustache!" Yikes! I hope I'm not that insensitive to my kiddos! So those are my only symptoms, lots of hair, irregular periods & the acne isn't so bad, worse now because I'm pg. During u/s my ovaries have appeared normal & I have absolutely no problem conceiving, I know I ovulate with every cycle. I had blood drawn when I was about 20 yrs old to see if I had a thyroid problem that was causing so much hair & it came back fine.
My main concerns are for my daughters. I don't want them to be hairy or to have trouble conceiving. I also worry about the uterine cancer risk. Since I ovulate each cycle, do I still have to worry about that? My 5.75 yr old Dd is very hairless, but my 2.75 yr old Dd has fuzz on her shoulders & a little mustache! She is also darker skinned (my Dp is hispanic) so maybe her hair color will just be darker. I wonder if she is getting hormones from me via breastmilk that would cause her hair to darken or grow more?
What should be my first step? My PCP is really clueless, I wonder if I should talk to my ob first. Since I'm pregnant, should I wait? Do I have to wait to be diagnosed (or not diagnosed) when I'm not pg OR nursing - because that will be years from now!
Thanks for reading all of this & for taking the time to respond!
Welcome to SC! Congratulations on your family! I hope you find a doc who is experienced and knowledgeable about PCOS.
I am watching my daughter for PCOS and she is only 21 months. We watch her diet, not letting her eat regular bread, potatoes, sugar, etc. She has fuzzy spots on her face, but I'm hoping it's just normal hair growth. There are a ton of links about PCOS and kids on the Research Articles board.
Welcome! There seem to be many diffrent variations of PCOS symptoms they tend to vary women to women. Like Jash mentioned there are a TON of articles about kids and PCOS being inherited or not in the research article section. GL

Welcome Meta. I don't'have any answers for you. I don't think you can pass on stuff in your milk.
Talk to your ob and see if he/she will test you but it might not be accurate since you are pg.
Hi, I have had excess hair my whole life and blame it on being Italian. I think a lot of it just has to do with your genes or heritage. In the past I've been tested for thyroid & diabetes mostly because I pee all the time. My blood test for pcos came back normal but my doctor "clinically" diagnosed me. Anyhow my daughter is 3 and she's very light skinned but I can already see the fuzz on her face! Not really sure what you can do about it or if it means she'll have pcos, I just think for us it's a family thing, all the ladies have some hair!
