Just left dr. appt. & confused! Hello everyone. I have been a lurker here for a while and have learned so much! I'll will try to keep this short - about 4 1/2 years ago when I was ttc #1 I was kind of dx w/ pcos. I had the cysts and elevated testosterone. I was put on met and clomid and conceived. After she was born I went back on met b/c it had made me feel so much better and we were surprised to find out we were expecting #2 a little sooner than planned! We were so happy to not have to go through years of trying again and I fully credit the met for our surprise! My little one is 2 now and I started looking into the pcos again b/c I realized it is about more than trying to get pregnant. Well, after waiting 2 months to get in to a dr. who supposedly knows about pcos and waiting another 3 weeks to get b/w & u/s I had my f/u appt. this morning. He again "kind of" confirmed my previous dx of pcos, but I am more confused than ever.
My cholesterol which has always been between 212 - 222 is 199.
Triglyceride - 31
HDL - 53
LDL - 140
LH - 21.7 and FSH 7.6. He did tell me and I have read that a ratio of 2:1 or greater indicates pcos, but he did not explain at all how that affects you or what can be done about it.
17 - Alpha Hydroxyprogest - 151
Androstenedione - 268 the normal range listed is 21 - 299. I have read that just being in the upper part of normal can be elevated, but of course the dr. said that mine is normal
Testosterone - total - 58
free - .34
% free - .59
DHEA - 24 which he said was elevated b/c normal was 11.8 - 18.6
And the one that confuses me the most is that my insulin level was 2.9. So, can I assume that I am not insulin resistant? Should I not go on met even though I felt so much better on it before and it obviously helped me concieve?
I often feel that I am hypoglycemic. I am about 40 lbs overweight and have trouble losing weight. Also, I have the typical unwanted hair and irregular cycles - every 6 - 8 weeks I get it.
Sorry this is so long. Thanks for any advice or info.
