Smile Just to say Hi

Hi there

I thought I would introduce myself, my name is Donna I am 33 and I live just outside Belfast. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 13 years ago and it was a long time before I could get medical answers that made any sense!

About 6 years ago I had ovarian drilling that wasn't for me any where near a success, that was followed by several attempts at clomid which really was the worse as I seem to have repeatly severe reactions too it.

For the last two years I have been taking metaformin 1500mg a day. I had to badger my consultant for nearly 2 years to let me try it and finally he gave in although he admitted himself at that stage he could give only basic advise on how to get the best benefit from it. Its going ok I noticed immediately that my periods returned and I havent looked back from that department since. Recently my sister lent me a PCOS diet book which I have been following since the 10th September and WOOHOO for the first time in years I am shifting the weight!!!!! I am down 2st 6lb and I cant believe it. I am going to keep on with the books advise and see if I can keep this going.

Other than that I have been married to a great man for nearly 12 years who really deserves a medal. We tried to concieve for 10 years with the usual distress and depression but a couple of years ago we decided for now atleast enough was enough, things for us have been alot better since then and I finally found I could see what other things I had in my life other than PCOS. I would love to be in contact with anyone who is in my local area especially, by email or phone it would be good to have someone to talk to who really understands this.

Bye for now
Donna

Hi Donna
Welcome to Soulcysters!

This is a great site and you'll find loads of support here, not just concerning pcos!

Congratulations on your weight loss - that's amazing! Is that the Colette Harris book? I must have a look for that come February.

Look forward to seeing you around and hearing your news/progress.
Love

Hi there

Yes it was the Colette Harris book and I have found it brillant so far. I know she has written a couple so here is the one that I am using

PCOS Diet Book by Colette Harris with Theresa Cheung

It's really not hard to follow it is based on the whole food idea, lots of grains and seeds and little or no white carbs. I really have tried everything over the years with varying degrees of determination and little or no success and this I find is quite easy really the hardest thing was saying goodbye to potatoes! However the best thing is that dont ever feel hungry. Also I know someone else who has been following it for the same time they hadnt got as much weight to lose as me and they are still down over a stone in that time.
