Hello all! I recently joined this board for support and information. I have a long history of PCOS and currently, my sister, cousin and I have PCOS.
Currently, I take Metformin ER 1500 and I stopped taking birth control. My doctor prescribed it for me to help with cramps. For me, some BC does not help with cramps.
My prayer and hope is that I can stop taking all drugs and manage this thing naturally. My hardest struggle has been weight loss. My highest weight was 301 and my lowest was 215. Currently, I am 242 am struggling to get the weight off again.
I am seriously nervous about being able have babies as both my sister and cousin have a dx of infertility. However, I have had normal, intense periods with the Met and ovulation.
My biggest issue is my doctor, who I feel is not being thorough with me because of my age and weight loss. I have not had current blood work done since January. He said my labs came back okay and that was it and said I just have to lose weight but since he did not do a thorough work up, I do not know if I trust that. He also said that because I am young I am still okay, which I do not know if I believe either.
My questions for everyone is 1: Know of any good DC area docs? 2: Any suggestions for weight loss while taking Met? 3: Do many of you have a family history of PCOS?
1) Welcome to SC. I live in NY so I really dont know any I have been contending with free health care through the VA but plan on going and seeing my normal doctor soon.
2) I just started Metformin today like litterally less then 20 minutes ago. So I am in the same boat as you.
3) There is no history in my family. Unless it comes from my father's side. Seeing that I was an oops baby of sorts. To long of a story to explain.
