Default Just Started Met And My Tummy has a question

In my early twenties, my endo put me on Met for prevention. Long story short, lost insurance blah blah.. stopped taking it. Well, now i'm TTC. The doc asked me if I had any tummy problems with Met the first time I took it. I didn't. So she put me on 1000mg. Sadly, this time is different. I just started taking it yesterday. *****TMI coming up***** My doc prescribed that I take it at night as to sleep through most the crummy part. Well, I took it, and stayed up a little longer than I expected, and NAUSEA! Then this morning, I ran to the toilet ever 15 minutes w/ diarrhea I am feeling fine now, but expect to have the same kind of morning tomorrow. Will my body adjust to my new meds? If so, how long with that take? Thanks for your help!

Hi Tara.

I started Met 500 3x a day. It has been about three weeks now since i began taking it. The first week i had lots of problems with running to the bathroom and having nasuea. This got much better and now I only seem to have diarrhea once in a while and i find that it is worse when i eat a lot of carbs. It was my understanding that it takes about a week to regulate and then gets better. I hope that you start to get some relief!!

The only thing that helped my "tummy issues" was eating lower carb food items with the Met. Alot of sugary and starchy foods with make it worse.

Hi Tara, I have been on met for 9 months now and I had the same issues. When I first started to take met, I did not take it on a regular bases, cause of the tummy issues, but that made it worse because I never allowed my body to get use to the met. One day I would take it and two or three days I would miss it. So 9 months ago I decided that I wanted my baby and I need to take the met, so I took it everyday just the way I was suppose to. After about a month I had no side effect what so ever, and the side effects got better as each week passed in that month. Now I take 1500mg of met all in the morning and feel just fine as long as I eat breakfast with it. I know carbs bother a lot of women taking met, but I have no problem eating carbs. Best wishes to you and I hope the side effects wear off soon.

I just started Met this week, my doc made it very clear that I shouldn't eat anything "white" white pasta, bread, sugar, etc because it would upset my stomach (ie. severe cramping, diarrhea, bloat) I've been so scared by the side effects I'm following her advice to a "T" and haven't had any issues. Maybe cut out the white stuff and see if it works for you?

Tara: First, don't jump into all 1000 mg at once. Start with 500 mg per day for a week, maybe longer if the s/e's don't lighten up, then move up to 1000 mg. Second, hold back on the carbs, sugar, high fat foods, and iceburg lettuce until your body gets used to the met, then add them slowly. Also, you may want to invest in some immodium. I carry some with me at all times. Unfortunately, unlike most ladies, my side effects have never lessened, but that's not the norm. Good luck with the baby making!

I have never really had trouble with the carbs but I already am low carbing. As for the nausea I have to take my pill in the middle of a meal. Not a snack but a meal or my stomache gets so upset its noy funny.
