Default Just started on Yaz

umm k, here's some background first....

I was on Yasmine several years ago for irregular peroids and lost about 25 lbs, I wound up with a killer yeast infection that took months to clear up and then the doc, at my request, changed my pills. They were changed several times, and eventually I quit taking anything at all. THEN I gained a pile of weight, and I found out that we had a leaking pipe under the house, we fixed that, and walah! no more yeast infections! Anyhow, I went to my family doc about the hair loss, acne, hair in places there shouldnt be, excessive weight gain and no peroid for about a year. He suggested it might be PCOS but wanted to try to get me destressed (my job was a nightmare) and loose some weight if possible first. SO I lost about 30 lbs, my peroids came back with a vengace and I went to see my OBGYN. He said its PCOS, here is nortel 35 come back to see me when you want babies, oh and you'll lose weight on this!
So I went back to my family doc who explained that the BCPs will help (they did before) but I'd always be able to mussle up easily as it was notonly part of my PCOS but a family trait....ummmmk.
I was on nortel 35 for two months and was exausted unless I was on the inactive week. I called the OBGYN and his associate perscribed YAZ. (my doc was not there)
im into my second week as I type. I do feel better, not as tired and generally crappy feeling or crying all the time.
Ive already lost one lb, knowing my track record, well, thats a HUGE thing!!!! In the past three months Ive lost 3.5inches in my waist, and 6 in my hips. Again this is great but the weight wasnt budging.

SO here's my question:
Ive seen so many comments about how bad YAZ has been for folks. Are there any positive results? Almost everything I've read on other sites also has been negitive.

My side effects, so far, nausea, more enegery (this is a good thing), more intollerant to tempetures (I notice them more anyhow, could be just the weather), and a more regular bowel (almost could set a clock by it) LOL. ok My hair is still thinning a little but nothing like it was, and my skin is really dry. Im also not crying over everything like I was, and Ive still got some pimples. Ok thats it I think

Id love to hear if anyone has had a positive run with Yaz. and if so what that positiveness was!
Thanks yall

Hi,
DD 18 was diagnosed in May with PCOS. She had horrible irratic periods, hair growth and weight gain. Bloodwork showed high testosterone and she is IR. NP rx'ed YAZ to start with. She took it for one cycle and did not have any ill effects. She had some weight loss the first month. She then started the metformin- 500mgs once a day. She had some stomach issues, but then worked it out wiith a better diet. She has been taking the YAZ for 6 months now. She has lost weight, has less hair growth and overall is "changing shape" (more feminine) She has shorter, lighter more regular periods. The DRSP hormone in the YAZ has been benificial as well as the lower estrogen. She has had a few set backs, typical teenager things, but overall is better. The YAZ has been a positive experience and has given her "quality of life" as a young woman. No more unpredictable heavy periods. I might add that she is not sexually active.
Hope this helps!

funny you meantioned shape as being more feminine. I have noticed the same in me. as in, my curves are more curvy and im less like a round man... LOL. I first noticed the curvyness not quite one week into the Yaz. I thought perhaps it was due to my efforts at loosing weight, others have noticed as well, commentign that I "look great" and asking how much weight have I lost, (none accually lol). I wonder if its related or just a coincidence.

Default Good results so far

Hello lady. I just started taking Yaz and Spiro about three months ago and have had good results so far. I also noticed the more feminine body shape! I'm not sure which med to thank for which side effect, but the only negative side effects I've had from the meds is some nausea and I feel like I freeze to death all the time now. Other than that I have yaz to thank for my period each month (I'm almost exactly 28 days apart now) and I've lost ten pounds. I also had darker skin on my ankles that always really bothered me, which seems to be getting lighter.

So, so far good results! Hope you have good results as well! **Hugs**

Smile Nausea? Ginger!

Ladies,
I've recently started Yaz and Metformin. I've been having very unpleasant nausea, etc, but I read in the thread about Metformin that Ginger helps Nausea. I tried some Ginger tea(lots of large flakes of dried ginger), and it's helping a LOT. I just wanted to post this here, since it might help some of you who have nausea from BCP.
Seriously, get some fresh ginger, and boil a slice in water or tea. Or, I'm drinking Rishi Pu-Erh ginger tea at the moment. Or something similar. BIG help!

I just finished my third and last month on Yaz. I absolutely loved it and I even told my huband that if we weren't TTC I would stay on it from now until menopause. I had no bothersome side effects. When I was on other BCP's I would gain lots of weight and I would become very depressed to the point of being suicidal. Being on Yaz I actually lost weight and did not have any problems with depression. I am also on 2000mg's of Metformin a day for my type 2 diabetes and that combined with the Yaz was supposed to help with the PCOS. I think it did. My husband and I are ready to renew our attempts at conceving. Keep us in your prayers! I have a feeling that it's going to happen soon since I have lost a significant amount of weight and I am still losing about a pound or two a week and my diabetes is finally under tight control.

ok, one full month of Yaz behind me and Im still feelin' great! I just went to night shift so taking the yaz before work leaves me icky feeling (rather than before bed) but I'll handle it. Im alergic to ginger (closes my throat sometimes) so I cant have ginger tea. Sipping a pepsi or coke seems to help. I can make a 12oz can last all night! lol. Anyhow, I have noticed that Im COLD all the time. My peroid was so easy this time I thought something was wrong. Im used to bleeding so badly I get anemic and tired but this time it was less the five days (I started a day early) than most of the other times would have been in ONE day! I hope that lasts. the cramps werent too bad either and the weapy-crying-whiney thing was minimal.
I sure hope this lasts because Ive not felt this good in a long long time!

Hi everyone!

Well I could honestly say I had 4 good/symptom free months on Yaz.
I'm on my 5th month, and I don't want to take away all of the positiveness from this thread...
So I want to wish all the best of luck, and achieve what yall aspire for

Thumbs up

I started taking Yaz about 2 months ago. The only negative thing I've found about it is the price. A little expensive at $50 a month, but it's well worth it. My skin hasnt had one blemish since about the 3rd week I started taking it, I eat whatever I want and still lost 15 pounds and I havent had any cramps or mood swings. I dont know if it has this effect for everyone but I would def. recommend it

I didn't read the replies, so sorry if I mention something somene may have already.

Your thinning hair, low energy, and dry skin sounds like hypothyroidism. Just my 2 cents and something for you to consider being tested for if you haven't already. A lot of cysters with PCOS have thyroid problems and if anyone else in your family has it, chances are you may as well.

Also, I posted a bad thread about Yaz and how I think it's just the worst thing out there...but everyone is different and it may be just fine for you.

I was crying at the drop of a hat (even at corn oil commercials, lol). Also, it made me depressed and sort of suicidal (I was contemplating it) and I have a pretty good life---little stress, great husband...I'm happy. Y'know? The most annoying thing about Yaz is that I was spotting (sometimes heavily) allll the time.

I'm hoping it works out better for you. My gyn wanted me to give it at least 3 months before switching, but I'm telling you...I'd have either bled out first or did something crazy. Best wishes!
