Hi! I am new here, just dx with PCOS a few days ago, today is my third day taking Met. I was just wondering if anyone could share their experience with it. I don't have all the symptoms of PCOS. Its mostly just irregular periods, some dark hair where I wish it wasnt(but its manageble, and very cystic ovaries. I also have Hypothyroidism. How long does it take before the Metformin starts working? Thanks!
Hi and welcome... i'm in the same group as you just started met 2days ago so it's nice to have someone else on the same schedule lol in our little part of the world lol...i'm just hoping it works I did wake up with a headache today but i think it's too soon to know plus the weather here is rainy and that usually affects me. Ive been on Met for 4 days now ... ive had some pressure around my eyes and nose but i was kinda leaning toward allergies and sinuses although i don't think iam eating right on it because seemed like when i added more food to my stomach it went away maybe a coincedence(sp?) or either the allergie med decided to work.............. im also wondering when AF will show up....kinda neat we have started Met together maybe we can all compare what all we are going through while on it.... i have had a tore up stomach this am i think its because i up-ed my 750 mg to 1500mg thats where iam supposed to be on the 1500.... other than that ive been pretty much ok with it...
Oh and penguin im also hypothyroid i was told on friday that when they killed my thyroid back in Febuary, that i would go from being Hyper to Hypo which i did they are gonna wait to put me on Synthyroid ..
I am so happy that we all started around the same time!(I dont know if happy is the right word :-P) I am hoping AF shows up soon! I just want my cycles to be normal! The only problem I have had on Met is it lowers my blood sugar and I get a little light headed untill I eat some more. I am going to the doctors sometime soon for the hypothyroidism so hopefully they will put me on something for that too!
I also just started taking met a few days ago. 500mg x2/day. I am taking it in the middle of my morning and evening meals. Aside from some increased gassiness, I haven't had any negative side effects. Does this mean I am lucky? Or have the side effects just not set in yet?
My doctor told me to stay on this dosage for 2 weeks then increase to 500mg x3/day if I felt like I could handle it.

Lesley, I am wondering the same thing! The only side effect I have had is gassiness. I am hoping thats all I will have so that I can bump my dosage up to 1500 next week!
I'm new here -- just started taking Metformin too ... Today is day 3, and I've been queasy with other unpleasantness almost continuously for the past two days. The idea of taking each dose is really something I have to work up to.
I've also taken 2-3 hour naps both today and yesterday, and I am not generally a napper.
My doctor said to take half a pill twice a day for the first week and then bump it up to a full pill twice a day; the pharmacist suggested even starting with just 1/2 pill once per day, but I'm trying to do what the doctor suggested.
hi. I have been taking metformin for three and a hlaf weeks. I started with 500mg a day for 5 days then 1000 for 5 more, then 1500. I hadnt seen AF in over 8 months. It took 7 days then I had a perfect 7 day period. I was so happy. The side effects can be nasty. I have bad cramps and bloating, and if i take it later than usual or forget a dose I get bad headaches. But hey its working I also lost about 9 pounds in 3 weeks. I am about 25 pounds overweight so hopefully ill lose more. Anything Else i can help with????
VTmommy, I am hoping me experience is similar to yours! I had to take Provera to induce my last AF, so I am hoping being on this will make me ovulate/and have AF on my own!
Hi girls. Ive been talking met since november. The only s\e ive had is diarhea and that was slight. I take 1500mg, and still have to take provera to induce af and clomid to ovulate, i'll go up to 2000mg in may.
