Hi everyone, I'm 38 and I'm just starting testing for PCOS. I actually went in to discuss having a hysterectomy because I have dealt so long with the messed up periods, excessive hair, etc. The nurse practicioner said she thought I might have PCOS and has ordered blood testing, ultrasound and general gyn.
Does this PCOS have long term effects? I mean if it wasn't diagnosed early, can there still be hope? My husband and I had given up all hope of children and now there is a little shimmer and I just was wondering? Help if you can. Thank you!
I was diagnosed with pcos at the age of 16. I am now 32 and i'm just now getting the care I should of had years ago. There is still alot that I don't know, but these boards have alot of helpful information. To save you the time and trouble of running back and forth to different dr's trying to put this syndrome together, I would suggest getting a consult from an endocrine dr. PCOS is treatable and many woman with treatment are able to get pregnant. Good luck and keep us posted.
I'm just starting PCOS testing too, and like you, I have been ill for a long time and just want it to be over with. Don't give up hope, there are lots of women that have sucessful treatment and go on to have healthy children. Once you are diagnoised, you can talk to your Dr more about options for you.
Good luck

Hi! I joined here because my doctor said I may have PCOS. I didn't want to make a new board so I'm just asking here. I have to get an ultrasound of my ovaries on Tuesday and was wondering exactly what they do for one. Thanks!
ultra sounds are really eazy, depending on which one the order trans vaginal or trans bladder ( those are fun) they will look at your ovaries to see if there are cyst on the. you get to lay there and they push on your bladder lol.......hope that answered your question
