Hey what do you ladies think the cost of adoption would be if we did a international home study and then went to the country to an orphanage and picked a child to adopt? I'm not sure if that's possible I was thinking of adopting my boyfriend's neice from Africa but his sister is having second thoughts. Anyways my brothers wife is from Guatemala and said I can get the home study done and then go to her country to adopt a baby and it will not be that much!!!! Do you think that's really possible?

I've never heard of anyone being allowed to do that. I know you used to be able to do private adoptions in Guatemala, not sure if you still can. Even in that case though, it's more similar to a private adoption here.. you hire an attorney, locate a birthmother, etc. I think I would call an attorney or an agency and find out for sure whether what has been proposed is actually legal in Guatemala!
