You'd probably want some blood tests done before you go asking for medication. Depending on the results you may not need medication.

Some doctors will hand out prescriptions for meds like lollies, others just refuse completely. However if you do some research, print out some articles and match it up to your symptoms and blood test results etc then your doctor should sit up and listen.

I don't pay any more than $3 for meds because I'm studying and only working part-time so qualify for a community services card, but unless you find something really out of the ordinary that you get prescribed you're not likely to be paying $100s each month.

I'd recommend writing down a list of your symptoms and a list of meds that you've read about and then you wont forget anything with your new doctor. Request blood tests to see where you are at and go from there. Is there anything in particular you want to tackle first? Ie your weight? TTC? For me it was the fact that I was so excessively hairy! lol which is why they changed my birth control pill to Diane/Estelle to begin with.

Here's some good links to have a browse through:

But the best one: (And the one I got all those links from haha)

Default Kirst...

I know how you feel! that is exactly what my doc said to me in 2004!?! Didnt go back to him, i instead found a better doctor!!
I have just started Metformin on Monday - if you dont know too much about it, google it or talk to a doc cos the side effects are not too nice, but all part of the process - I have also been on Estelle for a few years. Last year i researched meds for PCOS and found out about Metformin that way, so I asked my doc and she sent me away for bloods first.
Februarystar I am about to go check out those links and have a gander at fitcysters too!

There is probably another thread for this, but just asking you guys - Any of you on Metformin? How long did you side effects last?? I am weining myself onto it, will be glad when the next few weeks are over!

My side effects lasted until I cut out the foods that were causing the side effects - most of them were high sugar/high fat foods that were 'bad' for me anyway, but not having any dairy at all was a big concern. I'm a bit skeptical about using soy products and couldn't afford regular calcium supplements. In the end I quit Metformin. But side effects are very different for everyone.

Oh yeah, the first specialist I went to, just said "lose 5kgs and go back on the Pill". Unbelievable. Then I went to a specialist and she was very unhappy with the advice the previous Doc gave me and gave me a complete diagnosis and treatment plan. Ive been on Metformin now 2 months and it's improved my acne a lot, but no AF yet. I'm kinda getting depressed about it now. I guess I was expecting a miracle.

hey girls, how's everyone doing? i havnt been on here for a while, but totally have to say how stoked i am to have found this soulcysters website, i went back to my doc (well informed from being on here) and ended up walking out with a prescription for meds, and feeling way beta about everything, and i wouldnt have done that if i didnt have the advice from you guys, so thanks so much!
and yep, i'll be expecting a miricle, like you ZigZag, cos i'm so impatient!
Thanks so much Febuary star for the links and advice =)
I'm a bit nervous about getting side effects, not sure of doseages or anything yet, but i'll be on metformin, and um is it a N word? thats progesterone? jeez i dunno??!! but from what i've read, providing you take it in the middle of a meal, with healthy food, things could be ok?
anyways, i hope everyone is good and well, i sure am cos i feel like i've got a chance of getting beta... ye haa. have a good day
