Wanted to introduce myself before I post anything.
I and 25yrs old. I have two beautiful children, a daughter 9 and a son 6. I am married (second time) and I have two german shepherds and a mutt, and two cats. I enjoy doing things with my dogs..I am hoping to compete and get all 3 of them titled and I have been toying with the idea of one day starting dog training.
On monday...It was confirmed and I am Insulin Resistant and have PCOS. My insulin was 20, and I cant remember the other numbers but they werent extremly high, but, my dr. beleives that we have caught this early. Ive only been feeling 'bad' for the past yearish.
So far I have only had 3 menstruls in a year. My husband and I are hoping to have a baby of out own (my two are from the previous marriage) someday. I went to two different drs. who really didnt know/do anything, and when I found out my old dr. was taking new paitence again, I went back to her (we had moved aways away before) and she got on the ball and got me in for an ultrasound and bloodwork.
Right now I am taking 500mg of metformin, but I am due back and they are retaking blood and she says I might have to go on 1000mg of it. But for now she just wants to wait and see. I have never been on any meds in my life and other than an OTC, have only taken pain meds twice in my life. She said she doesnt want to overwhelm my body right now.
She is a good dr. and she spent half hour/45 min trying to help me understand stuff, and I kinda do, but im still confused to. Its...hard. Aside from not being able to have a baby now, I just feel.....emotional. It didnt hit me until today.....my body aint working right. That alone is scary. Not to meantion I am now high risk for cancer, heart probs and diabeties, cause all those run heavily on both sides of my family.
I tried doing some research on metformin...and alot of stuff for type 2 diabeties came up...am I considered type 2? my glucose was just fine.
Also to my mother in law asked, and I know it might be silly and im guessing the answer is no, but all the little cysts..im guessing they cant be removed? Is that possible or an option? I dont know if id get it done or whatever, but I was curious, in case it ever comes up in the future.
Hello and Welcome to SC!
Metformin is used in many women with PCOS who have Insulin Resistance and even those ladies who are not.
It tends to help regulate cycles and bring on ovulation as well as keeping insulin levels under control.
I took the drug for less than 2 months and got pregnant with my 1st daughter.....after more than 14 years of ttc.
I wish you all the best as you continue to try and figure all of this out.
Welcome DOLCH we are happy to have you here and if you search on this website you can find all your answers and more I don't take any drugs and I haven't looked into the rest of the stuff you were asking about but there are a lot of ladies here who can help in that area good luck and pm me if you would like to talk.

I know how you feel honey, I know it's rough, but just take it one day at a time. There is an overwhelming amount of information out there and it can get to you. But it is important to know what's going on with your body. There is a couple of books I would highly recommend, you can usually find them together on Amazon.com. Go to amazon and go to books and research Insulin Resistance, it should also bring up a book for PCOS. I haven't gottent the PCOS book yet, but I hear ti's very informative. I do have the IR book and it's awsome!! It's literally called, "The insulin Resistance Diet".
As for the cysts, i do think they can operate and remove them, but they keep coming back. To my knowledge, they will always come back. The best person I say to discuss that with is you dr. She can direct you properly. She sounds like a very good dr.
Just becuase your IR and on met, doesn't mean you have type 2 diabetes. Everyone thinks that. And the research is awful for met because that's what it's mostly associated with is type 2 diabetes. If your glucose is good, then no, your not diabetic. Your just Insulin Resistance. They are different.
I know this is tough, so if you ever want to talk, feel free to PM me.
Just wanted to say hello and welcome! I'm new here too!

How are you feeling on your met? I was glad to hear that you are starting at 500 and working up, that usually really helps with the side effects. Met worked wonders for me, it helped me have regular periods, helped me lose weight, and also it helped me get pregnant. I hope it helps you as much as it did me.
I know what you mean when you said that it's scary to realize your body just isn't working right. I want to let you know that we're always here for you. You are always welcome to PM me or email me.
Hugs
Jenny
