Hi everyone! My name is Kristi and I am 25 and I live in Castle Rock, CO. My husband Josh (26), and I will be married for 3 years in February. I have two girls, Karlee who is 8 and my youngest, Izabella just turned 2.
I have known that I have had PCOS since about 2002, but no doctor would diagnose me. Looking back I have had it a lot longer than that! In 2005 I went to yet another doctor and she did do blood work, but said my testosterone wasn't elevated for her to diagnose me. I came to find out recently that she brushed me off and all of my hormones levels along with my symptoms were consistent with PCOS. She put me on the mini pill (progesterone only) as I got migraines from BC pills with estrogen. I met my now husband and I went off the mini pill in November 2005. We conceived our daughter Izabella very quickly and she was born September 27th, 2006. When she was about 3 months old we decided to start TTC (December 2006). We finally got our BFP in September, only to miscarry in October. =*( There was nothing wrong with the baby. My midwife (I delivered Izabella with her at a free standing birth center) told me when I went in that without seeing tests or anything that she KNEW I had PCOS. She sent me to an OB/GYN who specializes in PCOS to get an u/s to make sure all of the tissue had passed. It was so devistating, but he took a look at my ovaries and they had "strings of pearls" wrapped around both of them. I was supposed to go back in right away for blood work, but just couldn't. I think it was just too hard for me to go back in there so soon after my miscarriage. I finally went back in in April and had my blood tests done. This doctor is great and PCOS is his passion. Everything came back as we all suspected. I was put on 2000mg of Metformin ER a day. It made me so, so sick. At the end of June I quit taking them for a few weeks. I went back in to the OB/GYN in July and he started me on just 500mg a day. I still feel really sick. I went back in in September and he ran more tests and checked for Ovulation twice... I was still not ovulating, though my testosterone was back in the normal range. I bumped up the Met to 1000mg per day. I went in again last Thursday, CD 2, and was prescribed 100mg of Clomid after he checked to make sure I had no cysts larger that 2cm. He was going to have me do a couple of cycles of Clomid before going on to IUI to make sure I was ovulating. My husband is going to be traveling off and on in November and December so he agreed to do IUI this month and added an additional day of Clomid. Started it on Saturday, CD 4, and am taking it until CD9. I upped my dose of Metformin to 2000mg today. I guess if it can help, I will just grin and bear it... I just have such a hard time on the metformin in general. I also am having some side effects from the Clomid. Also, my husband went in for testing in Sepember. I was sure he was fine, we concieved twice on our own (my oldest daughter has a different biological dad), but he had been working with High Frequency Radio Waves and wanted to be testing. To my shock it came back not so great. His sperm count and mobility were good, but the morphology (shape) was pretty bad. Less that 5% were normal shape and of that 5%, 76% were not good... factor in the other bad ones and not great chances. =*( They also think his bad sperm are attacking the few good ones. That is why we are doing IUI.
Anyway, I am really excited that we are finally starting fertility treatments, but nervous at the same time! It is all so new! I really am praying that this will be our month, but trying not to get my hopes up, but it is really hard not too!
Sorry this turned into a novel! I can't wait to read more posts and to post more myself! I hope everyone is having a great day! =)
Welcome, this is a great place to get information and support!
