I just joined the karma swap thread (great fun!) and when I looked back at my user CP to see who I had given karma to I noticed something odd. All the karma I gave has a gray box next to it. Some of the karma points I got have green boxes and one has gray. What is the difference? Did I do something wrong? I want to make sure I am giving people as much karma as I possibly can.

New cysters, or cysters who haven't received much karma yet, will shoot blanks so to speak when they give karma...meaning they give karma, but there are no points assigned to it yet and you'll see a grey box. After they receive some karma, their boxes turn green and they start to also give points with their karma messages. I believe how many points are given with each message grows as the amount of karma points they receive grows, if this makes sense? So a cyster who has received a lot of karma points will be able to give more points with each message than a cyster who has received very little karma points.
I also noticed that if you buy the "unlimited reputation" power from the vbMenu, the amount of points you give with each message goes down to only 10. I had enough points that I used to be able to give a new cyster her first green box with just one karma message! Since I bought the power I can not.......I can give to more people, but not as many points as I used to. Once I realized that, I regreted buying the power!

I'm pretty sure that it means you have no reputation power yet.
I think you have to be a cyster for a certain amount of time or have a certain amount of posts before that kicks in. Once it does, when you give karma or reputation to a person, their reputation points will increase by the number of your reputation power.
I've gotten karma from a lot of new cysters and it shows a gray box next to it. Even though no points come with it, I still appreciate it.

This question came up in another thread where a lot of the cysters had purchased unlimited karma giving. I'll have to pass that info on.
