Question Kaylas Story

I was diagnosed with pcos about 7 months ago. Im 20 years old and havent started any treatment. I havent had a period in 3 months and have a week before i have another doctors apt. I have already talked to my doctor about having kids someday and all she will tell me is " nothings guarenteed". Am I crazy for feeling like i should get pregnant now while i still can? I know theres treatment but "nothings guarenteed" doesnt sound too promising to me. Being a mom is more important to me then anything else in the world. Im afraid if i wait then one day it will be too late and I will be saying i wish i would have done it when i was younger. What do you think?

Hi Marie,

I feel a bit worried about not having kids too. I'm 25, boyfriendless, and wondering if I'll ever get married and have kids. But I don't think that the worry of NOT having kids should make you want to have kids now. I think you should have kids when you really want them, when you feel ready. It's such a huge responsibility; it changes your entire life, for better and for worse.

I don't think PCOS is a death sentence for those of us who want kids. Granted, it may be harder, and you may need fertility treatments, but honestly, all you can do right now is focus on yourself and treating your body right. Exercise, eat healthy, sleep well, take your prescribed meds, etc and hopefully your periods will become regular and you will start ovulating.

Of course, if you feel like you truly are ready to have kids and PCOS hasn't made you want to speed things up to a place where you aren't ready, then that's a different story...

that is exactly what goes around in my head 24/7. thats my greatest fear! :] im glad i read your post. i wish i could just try and conceive now then later when it gets harder. im only 18 so its out of the question for me :/ it kinda feels like your dream is slipping away with every moment that passes. im just hopeful that i'll be one of the lucky ones and will be able to conceive. thats all we can do i suppose.

Don't give up already! Recent studies have shown that almost every single symptom of PCOS (including infertility) is all caused by a deficiency of d-chiro-inositol. DCI is a b vitamin that our body makes on its own within the large intestine and plays a key role in helping insulin bring glucose into our cells. Women with PCOS don't make nearly enough DCI on their own so studies have been done to see if supplementing helps, and it does! for example, 86% of women trying to conceive who took DCI supp. all conceived while only a small percentage of women did who took a placebo. I recommend that you do some personal research on it and talk to your doctor (however my experience is that doctor's don't care). I have some good links so if you're interested just let me know!

Hey, i just wanted to comment on your "18" i am 17 and i am VERY ready to have children. i was wondering if your doctors advised you not to or if it was a personal choice?

i realize that i am A little "grown for my age" i graduated early from high school, i am married and are on my way to owning my first home... never the less, i was just wondering if your doctors told you that you were "too young"?
