I am a serial lurker on this site, but never felt I had anything important to say until now!
Since I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 17, I have been annovulatory unless on BCP's. I am now 27 and started Metformin just over a month ago. I honestly never thought this would work for me, as I believed my cycles were well and truly screwed up.
Well... I woke up this morning and I had my first ever period! I have been charting and it seemed like I had ovulated so I am soooo excited. I have been on a low GI diet and everything so looks like it worked.
Keep going with it. The SE's etc are well worth it. I feel normal for the first time in my life!
Isn't it funny how much we appreciate out period when we get it? I try to never complain because I usually only get 2 or 3 a year!

I know exactly how you feel. Metformin is a wonderful medication for so many people. I am really glad for you. I hope this is just the beginning for you!

Way to go, Southlandgirl! You should go out to dinner to celebrate the event, it is a big deal. I think it's great you can share this amongst ladies who understand the experience, many women take AF for granted (I know I used to when I was younger!). Keep up the good work.

congratulations! My friends and family laugh at me because I am a 31 year old woman and I still get excited about a natural period as if I am a 13 year old girl just starting on the adventure of womanhood...
Oh that's so exciting, and encouraging! I'm turning 27 tomorrow, and I'm starting Metformin this week (although, I will take several weeks to work up to a 500mg starting dose). Plus, I'm starting progesterone shots today. I'm so hopeful that I'll see a real period at some point!! I've only ever had 1 or 2 before, in my whole life!!
thanks for your messages everyone. just finished my period today and I have to say (touch wood) it was not too bad. Let's hope they are all like this! I just want next month to get here to see if it happens again!
southlandsgrl - It WILL happen! Don't be disheartened if it isn't every 28 days. Mine was usually a bit longer, but then I added vitamin B6 and had a perfect 28 day cycle.
