Exclamation Kick me in the a** please!!

Hi everyone! Hoping for a kick in the a** here, k? hehe

Christy~ Thanks for all the information! It was great of you to post it for us.

I went to an endicrinologist 10.27.04 for the purpose of ruling out hypothyroidism and final step of gastric bypass. I just got the lab results yesterday in the mail w/a note on it from the doc. My 12 hr fasting glucose was 107 (65-99 was said to be w/in range) and my insulin was 21 ( should be less than 17) and he wrote on it insulin resistance, consider metformin. I appreciate the quick results but not sure how I feel about no follow up or anything else. I explained to him that I was fairly aware of met and the effects/side effects due to this board and he was impressed, so I get the impression that he's leaving the ball in my court. I already have ibs so I'm wary of starting met but excited that I can finally do something.

I've noticed a lot of posts from cysters who use met also on ir diet, such as yourself, or on low carb/high protein diets.

How would you ladies take the way he notified me? Oh well, guess I'm asking for a 'shove' to get the met

Thanks for all your advise!!

That's good he personally wrote you a note. I never got a note, or call or nothing from my dr.'s office about my test results.
Anyways, maybe he thought you would consider Met, and you would schedule an appt.
He probally is leaving the Met desicion up to you. He obviously recommends it.
For some cysters the side effects are rougher than others. Since you have IBS, and if you decide to get on Met, make sure you start your dosage lightly. And it is a good idea to maybe already be following the IR diet. So you are used to it, and hopefully will lessen the side effects.
I had to learn the hard way on what to eat and not eat. I wish I started off on a low-carb or IR diet before starting Metformin.
I don't expieriance side effects anymore, and I feel good. So, I believe Met is good for some of us cysters. Probally wouldn't hurt for you to give it a try.
Good luck on your decision,
