Default Kidney ultrasound??

Hi guys
I'm reciently diagnosed-amenorrhea, pearl necklace ovaries, high testerone and dhea-s but normal weight, hair, acne, etc. Before the fp dr sends me to see an endo about met she wanted me to get a few more test including ultrasound of my kidneys. I've googled and searched pubmed but can't find anything about pcos and kidneys other than an increase inkidney stones. However I don't have any pain which I thought would be associated with kidney stones.

Is ultrasound of the kidneys normal in pcos dx?

There is another disease that is genetic called polycystic kidney disease, but it's not related to PCOS. My RE wants my DH to get screened b/c my FIL had kidney failure. Do you have a family history of kidney issues? One of the easiest ways to screen for it is to do an ultrasound of the kidneys to look for cysts. Maybe she found unusual results for your blood work? You should ask her why you need the u/s. And, you should make an appt with an RE anyway, which you can cancel later -- sometimes it takes a couple weeks to get an appt.

thanks for the reply-I haven't had any kidney related blood work done (BUN or creatinine). I was wondering if she wanted to visualize my adrenal glands... I guess I'll find out next week after the u/s. I'm not really worried about this just curious. I will have to wait till she refers me to the endo, but fortunately I go to a clinic that's attached to the med school so at least there should be good continuity between the drs

As far as I know polycystic kidneys are somewhat related to PCOS. So anyone diagnosed with PCOS it is actually common to take a look at their kidneys as well.
