Default Kind of gross

I am taking 1000 mg of metaformin, but instead of having diarhea, something I was hoping for because im constipated all the time, I am super constipated!! worse than before I started taking met! why is this happening?!?!

I had diarhea twice since starting met. I cant remember what I ate, but my eating habits are pretty much the same.

Help! Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it?!

Thanks for any tips,
katt.

Are you getting enough fiber? Try Metamucil once a day. I know when I get like that all I have to do is eat a high fiber food (apple, nuts). Hope this helps. Good luck?

I had that happen sometimes at the beginning on Met. I'd get really constipated and then it would 'solved' by a couple of days of the runs. YIKES!

I suggest drinking lots of water and adding a little extra fibre to your diet, but do it *gradually*. If your constipation persists more than a couple of days, I reccommend a product for occassional use called SENOKOT. Senokot is a natural source laxative. Just a word of warning that it is for INTERMITTENT constipation only...you can't use it more than a week or so or your bowels will require it in order to go...not a dependancy I want to create.

I use it about once every 2nd or 3rd month or so and one dose doses the trick within about 12 hours. I used to take it before bed a day before I performed if I was feeling bloated or stopped up...nothing was worse than trying to sing wearing an evening gown when you felt like your intestines were distended.

Hope it helps.

I just want to add that if you do take Metamucil, it should not be within 4 hours of taking Met. I have read that it can interfere with Met (make it less effective). Metamucil is great for normalizing bowel function, and also is great for reducing cholesterol. I have recently begun taking it in the evening before bed (I take Met with breakfast and dinner).

I have luck w/ Colace (an OTC stool softener). I have been taking it every day, but I think I am going to try every other day. I also took Fiber Choice for a while. They are chewable and taste okay, too.
