Default Kinda Bummed :(

So I had my first appointment with a specialist today since I'm in the beginning stages of a PCOS diagnosis. He gave me a prescription for Vaniqua, went to Target to get it filled.....only to find out my insurance won't cover it. I know it's not the end of the world, but I'm still a little bummed about it. He gave some BCP's to help out. I'm thinking if I start taking those and get my face waxed that should do the trick for a while. Laser removal isn't really an option because it's pretty light. Just needed to vent a little. Thanks!

Vaniqa is often helpful to those women who have to shave more than once a day, but it takes far longer in the morning than shaving does.

The obvious problem with waxing is that you have to let the moustache or beard growth grow to a length at which it's very obvious before you can wax again. It's often good for very sparse, fine hair growth that's not hormonally stimulated, but not so successful for coarse, dense, male-type beard growth. If your hormones aren't within the normal female range you may find that waxing can increase the growth by causing a rush of testosterone-rich blood to the area.

For me, with very high testosterone levels and male-type moustache and beard growth, shaving is a better answer. For other women, another answer may suit better.

i think i'm the official electrolysis cheerleader here, but have you thought about trying it? my hair's the same as yours - blonde, soft, downy and i've never waxed it so it's virginal enough that i need only one zap over the area to get rid of it. unfortuntely new hairs can grow if your hormones aren't behaving themselves, which sucks, but an extra session a few times a month after the initial defuzzing isn't the end of the world if it means a hair free face.

are you thinking abouttrying spiro? my doc says it's a good idea for someone in the fuzz stages of hair growth. with the bc (oh, diane, how i love you) there's been a definite reduction in body hair. i'm reluctant to call success on my face as i'm having electrolysis there regularly and the facial hair reduction is really quite dramatic even at this early stage. one thing i would caution: electrolysis will ruin sensitive skin for a week or so after a session. absolutely infuriating for someone who'd happily go in for 2 hours a day every day until she was as hairless as one of those creepy cats.

i'm taking 1500mg of met, 150mg spiro and diane, for the record. i've also ordered some spearmint tea and will replace my usual jasmine with it - i'm willing to try anything at this point the hair must be eliminated!

oh, and just to add: don't give up! i had a little cry (or ten) after hearing that laser wasn't an option for me and then set about finding other options. vaniqa? not even available here. there are loads of natural remedies on the board that i'm going to add to my hair destruction regime. the tea, for instance, will cost about $5 for a fortnight's supply.

the war on hair -will- be won.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still waiting back on a few hormone levels which should be back next week.

I've considered using a depilatory or that magic cream stuff everyone is talking about, but I'm super paranoid because I'm afraid I'll have a reaction. My skin tends to be a little sensitive. I have a week off of work the end of September so I'll try it then maybe.
