Default kinda new at this pcos

Hey everyone,

My name is Maria. I am 23 and I was DX with PCOS last year. I am still kind of new at this. I really havn't read up about it until recently. I didn't know all the effects it can have on a person and I plan on taking it more seriously. I was on Yaz but I havn't taken it since last year. Knowing that birth control pills can cause cancer isn't a good idea to me. I have had my period on my own 2 times so far. I am going back to the dr and getting some more birth control becasue someone on another board said 2-3 periods a year isn't good. I am also wondering if my dr is doing a good job. I mean I got my blood taken last year and this year for diabetes and they havnt said anything. I see alot of you taken medication and I'm not taking anything so it worries me if she is doing her job. Before I started with the birth control she gave me a medication to get my period. I can't remember what it was called. I also get hair quicker and I have pimples and scares. I am sick of people asking "did u have the chicken poxs". I dunno if anyone has alot of pimples or scares due to this. It's funny cuz I went to skin drs before I found out about PCOS and they said it was me or they didn't know. So now that I do know its the PCOS I am going to go there and tell them. That should shut them up. Oh yea another thing my Dr. said is that its all in your head that you gain weight from PCOS. I was 150-170 before this happened. Now I am 205. Before I gained all the weight I always stayed the same. I was over weight when I was 150-170,but still I think it is the PCOS. It's just depressing to me..just knowing all the stuff that can happen to you and knowing the fact it could take you awhile to have children. I am not married and I know I am young ,but it's still a bummer. My family and my bf are the only ones that know. I dunno If I should share it or not with other people. I mean if someone asks about me having chicken poxs I'm not gonna be like well I have PCOS. I don't think it's anyones bussiness. Anyways has that happen to anyone else? Can't wait to hear from you all.

Welcome to SC! I'm still kinda new here too! I can't tell you how great this site it!! It's so nice to know there are other women who understand!

I started taking Metformin about three weeks ago. So far, I've lost around 5 pounds. I'm hoping to get back down to 150. I totally understand how frustrating the weight gain is. I was naturally skinny until I developed PCOS.

Anyway, sorry I rambled. Just wanted to welcome you and let you know YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!

Welcome to SC. I didn't have the acne problem, but I did have the sudden weight gain. If your dr is saying this isn't PCOS related, you may want to go for a second opinion with a different PCOS friendly dr.
