Question Know of Dr. Minassian in Philly?

I previously went to see Dr. Katharine Sherif in Philadelphia, she was great, but she left, and the place closed down (Drexel Center for Women's Health). Now, I am looking for a new doc. On the PCOS association's website, I found another doc in that area, named Shahab Minassian at the Drexel Fertility Center. Has anyone seen this doctor? Any reccomendations for this area?

Smile Yes!

I saw Dr. Minassian for a short period when I was first diagnosed and I was personally very pleased under his care. Once I had a question about my medication and I called the very busy (!) office in the morning. All day I heard nothing--so I was disappointed. Well at 9:30 at night, Dr. Minassian called to answer my question. He is a very dedicated doctor. He is also very aware of PCOS and seemed really excited about helping women conceive and said he has had a lot of success in that area. Unfortunately, I moved out of the area, so I only saw him for a short time.

hey there gloglo.... Dr. Sherif is still practicing. she's not seeing patients at MCP Hannehman (or however you spell it) anymore... the new office is at 219 N broad in center city. I still see Dr. Sherif. she is a wonderful doctor! you can still search the drexel website for centers for womens health and it will give you the phone numbers and address

Talking Thanks Guys!

I'm glad that you replied. I think I'll see if I can get an appointment with Dr. Sherif, b/c she is the one who started me with Glucophage, etc.

gloglo.

Question

Ironically, I just stumbled upon this post... as I was supposed to see Dr. Miniassan (sp?) this morning! Unfortunately, I was turned away since Dr. Miniassan is a specialist and I apparently needed a referral.

I'm new to the city, just got this new insurance - so I called for an appointment with Sherif since she's a pcp (I need to see one to get a referral) and the soonest for new patients is August!!

My old gyn sucked and I'm not about to go to another ob/gyn - these doctors seem to be at the top of their craft, psoc research, ect.

I just moved to the city and I don't want to see the PCP I declared on my insurance card. I'd feel comfortable going to him with the flu or any other ailment, but I KNOW I need a gyn/specialist for this. So basically I'd have to go through all this bulls*hit, copay, just to say I want a referral. Any thoughts to speed up this process?

I've never had insurance that I needed a referall for so I don't know how to go about doing that... can't you go to your pcp just to get a referral?

On another note I think that Dr. Sherif is Totally worth the wait. August will be here before you know it

good luck! I hope you figure something out

Default Dr. Minassian

I'm truly fortunate to have Dr. Minassian as my doctor and I'm sure you will be too! I don't fit all the physical features of a person with PCOS yet I had many unexplained symptoms, so that should tell you my experience of frustration and disappointments.
I had first went to Dr. Sherif (whom works with Dr. Minassian) after looking through plenty of OB's and a disappointing RE; and have been extremely relieved. A lot of OB's out there will have you think it is all in your head, but not Dr. Sherif and Dr. Minassian! They want to get to the "core of the problem" and that is how they put it They based my diagnosis on my history and my symptoms, and then assessed where I am with blood work.
Dr. Minassian was great at taking the little time he has to answer my questions and listen (he's the director of RE). He does what few doctors out there do, and that is to stress diet and exercise! Godspeed and you will be blessed!

Default Dr. Minnassian

is a really great doctor, and I would recommend him to anyone that has PCOS. I am currently taking a break from TTC because I have been in New Orleans for one month in work travel, now that I have returned I am ready to see Dr. Minnassian. By the way I forgot to call Dr. Minnassian to let him know that I would be taking a break, he called me last week to make sure that eveything was O.K., because he was concerned that I have not been into the office to see him, and his assistant Leona is also great.
