Ok, so I'm new to Met. I actually haven't started taking it just yet, waiting for a 3 day weekend. I've been on this board for the past few days trying to keep up with everything that everyone has to say about starting Met. So I figured I would try to condense it all with all of your help of course. I wanted to try to get some input from everyone so like I said maybe it can help out all the other newbies like myself from having to read all of the confusing threads.
So, first, let's talk about food. Any advice you ladies have about food choices please share. Such as:
Also, any remedies that you ladies might have for the GI problems. I've heard a lot about Immodium, but I wanted to see if there were any other options you guys have found effective.
Thanks in advance!!!

Good luck starting met! I would keep your barb count low about 15 per meal if you can. Also be careful of lettuce until you know how your body handles it with met. As long as you eat healthy you shouldnt have any problems with what you eat.

i have not had too bad of GI problems. I started ~2weeks ago. In the past I have had GI problems and I make healthy coconut maccaroon (sp) cookies with Stevia and egg whites and coconut - I think that is all that is in it. But they seem to help me and this weekend I am going to make them and keep a few at work and home JUST IN CASE.
i cant eat lettice any more, either. Or the skin on cucumber. What id suggest is keeping a food diary for awhile, so you can see what/if any food upset you. I always eat with met and try to avoid greasy/fatty/sugar foods as much as poss

what worked well for me was following the guidelines discussed in the south beach diet.
I followed the south beach diet last year and lost weight very quickly... mostly try to stick to good carbs and lots of protein.
For example-
Breakfast can be scrambled eggs (I sprinkle ceese on top), turkey bacon.
Lunch can be some coldcuts rolled up with salad.
Dinner can be grilled chicken (or meat) with veggies.
Snacks can be a small apple with a string cheese or some nuts... I also loved having a spoonful of real peanut butter. Sugar free puddings, jello, candy...
HTH!

I have found that the biggest help for my tummy troubles with Met is to take my pill with some dairy -- a glass of milk, some yogurt, cheese etc in my meal. High carb meals, or sugar seem to send me running to the bathroom.
I generally eat a fairly low carb, higher protein diet and that helps. I haven't had any problems that I can identify with salad specifically -- fortunately, since I love salad.
Drinking a lot of water seems to help too.
You may not have many or any troubles with Met. Not everyone does. Mine have been minor, and mostly controlled by Immodium or Mint tea when they hit. Sometimes it hits from out of the blue, for no reason at all. But the benefits of Met have outweighed any inconvenience.
Good luck. I understand wanting a long weekend to start it. When I took my first pill, I remember feeling like I was just sitting and waiting for a bomb to go off inside me . LOL. Nothing happened. Crossing my fingers for you.

Hi! This is my experience with Met...
Which version are you going to be on? I take the Met XR version, so I can take all my met at once.
I eat a healthy diet, and met doesn't affect me except for 1-2 days when I'm increasing my dose. My diet follows weight watchers, which follows mostly the food guide pyramid.
Take met always with a meal, and with milk. I like to eat 1/2 my meal, drink some milk, then pop the pills, drink more milk, then eat the rest of my dinner. I rarely have problems.
When I am not eating a healthy diet, I get horrible stomach cramps, constant nausea and bathroom trips.
Mainly what I focus on for healthy diet is at least 5 servings of fruits/vegetables, 2 servings of dairy, and lots of water (I drink at least 80oz per day).
