I just wanted to see if any cysters have had experience with a Korean Adoption, and if so are there any agency recommendations? DH and I had been drawn to the Guatemalan program but have also found the Korean program to be a program that we would be able to pursue earlier since the cost is somewhat less. Any information is truly appreciated!

i could be wrong, and i hope someone answers you soon that knows more, but i think they are one of the countries with a restriction on overweight people. may not effect you, and i hope not, but i wouldnt be allowed.
but dont take my word on it, best thing to do, is call an agency that does Korean adioptions in your area, and ask for some info. good luck!!!!

Lisa-Thanks for the information. I was aware of the 30% weight restrictions for Korea. Fortunately DH and I are well under the limitations. I appreciate the heads up!

I have a friend who is waiting for her referral for her daughter from Korea. She is guessing she will hear in May but then it's another 3-6 month wait until she travels.
I don't know all the particulars of Korea--I do know they can escort your child home for you and you don't have to travel if you don't want to.
She is using Wide Horizons for Children (www.whfc.org) here in MA.
On the other hand, if you are interested in a China Adoption I am full of answers!
GOOD LUCK!

My DH and I came very close to beginning the South Korean adoption program last year, then I found out I was pg and we put our plans on hold. We still want to adopt from Korea or China sometime soon. Anyway, we were going through an agency that is based in Northern VA and MD, it's called ASIA (you can find their website by going to google and typing in ASIA adoption). They don't have a ton of info on their site but there is a link where you can request information and they'll mail it to you pretty quickly. We were going to use a local agency for our homestudy since ASIA is 5 hours from us, we went to an informational meeting and were very impressed with them. Then I think the typical time for a child was 8-10 months but now I think it is a tad longer. I know if you don't have children now you can't pick the gender, but if you do have children then you can choose the gender. It was cheaper than Guatemala (we had also considered that country) and seemed a little easier because you don't have to prepare a dossier. GL and keep us posted!

Just a little FYI .
There are four agencies in South Korea and two of them have a weight restriction and two of them don't. If there is a question about weight (which I know the original poster said there is not in her case but I wanted to post this just in case someone else reads this thread that does have an issue with weight), you just need to find an agency here in the US that works with one of the two agencies in Korea without a weight restriction. Wide Horizon's here in the US works with Holt in Korea and does not have a weight restriction.
Again, just a little FYI. I hope I didn't offend. My dh and I have decided on Korea if we decide to do international adoption so I've done a lot of research on it.
OK, it has been FOREVER since I've checked in here as is obvious by my siggie! Someone on one of my adoption boards was asking for support for PCOS so I gave her this site and came to check in.
Our son came home from South Korean on 3/17/04 and is an amazing little boy! We could NOT be happier. In fact, the crazy people that we are, we just received a referral for our DAUGHTER a week ago (also from Korea). She is expected home in April or May.
The Korean program is fantastic. The babies are well taken care of, generally healthy, and the cost is less than many programs (and more than others).
It appears that you are in PA? If that's correct, WOO HOO! You can use the agency we used. They are in need of families and the wait is VERY short. Brett's adoption was done in 5 months and Mira's should be done in 6 months. That's from the very first piece of paperwork! That is unheard of in international adoption. The agency is Family Adoption Consultants of MI (www.facadopt.org). They are currently working with The Eckels Agency in PA since they need additional families. You can contact Eckels at 570-323-2520.
