Lightbulb L-Lysine for thinning hair?

I was looking at my Mom's October 17th issue of First magazine today and saw an article entitled "SOS for Thinning Hair". PCOS specifically was not mentioned but the title alone was enough to inspire me to read it. It discussed 3 different treatment options.

Anyway, it suggested taking 2000mg of L-Lysine per day to combat hair loss/thinning hair. Has anyone here tried L-Lysine, and if so, has it helped you any?

PS: For anyone interested in the full article, please feel free to let me know and I will either try to post it online or will try to e-mail it to you.

I've been taking doses of L-Lysine for about 15 years now, to quell flare-ups of fever blisters/cold sores that I get occasionally. The L-lysine interferes in some way with the herpes virus that causes the fever blisters.

As for lysine treating hair loss.....would you like to see the new wigs that I'm trying out today?

It may work for some people...

I also use Lysine for coldsores - at the first sign of the 'tingly' feelings around the mouth.

I've never heard about it used as a remedy for thinning hair, but if it's safe to take long term, then you may want to give it a go.

Good luck.

Thanks ladies for your input. I appreciate it. I didn't know it helped with cold sores. That's good to know for future reference.

I'm on a couple of herbs/vitamins right now that seem to be helping my excess hair/thinning hair problem, so I think I'll hold off on the L-Lysine. I just thought it would be interesting to know if anyone here had taken it and what their results were.

Thanks again. :-)
