Default LA CHICA RUBIA? Question for you...

Hi Cara,
Thanks in advance for reading this and for your thoughts. I have been reading your posts with interest. I am starting to wonder if I may have a Candida issue....

Metformin has dramatically helped my PCOS symptoms, but there are still a few lingering problems and I am wondering if they sound to you like a Yeast Treatment program might be beneficial?

My first clue: Both of my kids had terrible Thrush within 7 days of nursing. Isn't Thrush a yeast overgrowth?

My second clue (TMI Warning!!!!): I have a lot of itching and discharge off and on. Never a full-blown yeast infection, but what often feels like the start of one, then it goes away.

My third clue: Despite 2000mg of Met, I can't get a regular cycle to save my life. I depend on a regular cycle to keep my migraine headaches in check, so this is really important to me.

Lastly, (more TMI!!!) I have this rash on my fingers, up near the fingernail that looks like little tiny fluid filled bumps. This rash comes and goes..but always comes back. It doesn't itch, it just feels and looks weird.

I am curious if you, or any other Cyster for that matter, think that I may benefit from a Candida cleanse.

Thank you!
Amanda

Yes, thrush is yeast/candida.

Yup, That sounds like it could be yeast.

Wow, with 2000mg of met, you woudl think that AF should start coming regular soon. Sorry you have to deal with migraines, interesting that AF helps with that.

I am not sure if that would be caused by candida, but it might be another type of fungus. If it is, than the same types of things that kill candida might help that too.

In my personal, slightly bias opinion, I think that EVERYBODY should do a periodic candida cleanse, since candida is so rampant. And those with any health concerns, like us PCOS cysters, should do a long term candida control program to get the yeast under control, and to KEEP the yeast under control.

I would highly recommend that you do a candida control program, since you have some signs of candida overgrowth, in addition to having PCOS.

What kinds of candida control options are you considering?

Thank you!!! I so appreciate your quick response.

I actually don't have any clue where to start with a Candida cleanse, but I just have the feeling I may get some relief of some symptoms if I do.

I've heard of Candex. Is that an appropriate place to start?

Thanks again! You've helped me so much.

Amanda

I am taking Candex right now, but I recently found out about NSI Candida Yeast Management from another cyster. It has almost exactly the same formula as the Candex, but you get twice as much for the same price. I plan to start using that when I run out of Candex.
http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Candida-Yeast-Management

When I was first starting candida control, I was using candex, an enzyme yeast fighter, AND Yeast Defense, an herbal yeast fighter. Kind of like fighting the yeast on more than one front at the same time, in order to get the yeast under control. Now I am taking mostly just Candex, since I am just trying to KEEP the yeast under control.

I know that this is not herbal, but if you can get an Diflucan Rx from your doc, the diflucan can help to jump start your candida control program, and can kill the yeast EVERYWHERE in the body, so you will have an easier time getting and keeping the candida under control with the enzymes and/or herbal yeast products.
You can just call your doc's office, and tell them about your yeast symptoms, and that you suspect a vag yeast infection, and ask if they can call you in an Rx for Diflucan (or it's generic) called in to the pharmacy.

Thanks again Cara. I think I'll try Candex to start. I see it is a little expensive, but that's ok at first.

I am definitely going to ask my doctor for a Diflucan script to get things going. I'm lucky that my doctor's office is progressive in the fact that they recognize and treat Candida overgrowth.

Thanks again!
Amanda

Hum, I haven't tried oil of oregano. I would not be surprised if it would help control yeast, since alot of different herbs have that effect. It certainly would not hurt. Since each brand is different, it is best to follow what the label says for the recommended amounts. If it gives you a range, it usually works best to take the max.

Garlic also helps, and I don't think that is too expensive. The Candex is $40 for a 1 month supply, but the NSI yeast management is $40 for a 2 month supply, so that would only be $20 a month.
I like to start with the enzyme formulas like the Candex, or the NSI YM, because they are supposed to work without causing a die-off reaction.

Vitamin Shoppe has an herbal yeast formula called Yeast Fend that looks pretty potent, with garlic and other herbs that fight yeast, and it runs about $13 for a month's supply.

Anything that kills yeast will help, but the more you do at the same time, the better results you will have. Limiting simple carbs, like sweets, and limiting junkfood carbs, like refined bread and white rice, will also help.

Let me know how it works for you.
