I don't meet with my new endocronologist until mid November but a kind nurse (pre-admit) at the hospital where I had my lap/ovarian drilling checked my thyroid with the other b/w done for my surgery. I got the results yesteraday but don't know what it means...
TSH 1.740 *went down from 2.3 in early August*
Free T4 14.3 *wasn't told the normal range*
Total T3 3.5 *normal range 1.5-2.6*
Don't know why or how my TSH went down all by itself though, the nurse (not the same nurse that did the test for me) found that odd.
I have almost every symptom of Hypothyroidism, but doesn't the T3 being high indicate Hyperthyroidism?? Or am I just confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious about this too. My TSH was checked twice in 17 days time and one time it was 1.7 and the next 0.64. A few months before all this my TSH was 0.67 so it seems mine doubles and halves whenever it feels like it..? Weeeird!

Oh.. @ Free T4: My results state that the reference value is 11.0-22.0. I think this will probably be the same where you're from. I'd say your T4 is fine, but I know little about the subject. Mine was tested twice, once on 16 and once on 13. No doctor ever said anything about it so I'd say we're fine
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think I read *somewhere* that it's normal for your thyreoid values to go up and down a bit. I even think you could influence this yourself (a little bit) by eating more or less iodine salt or by taking vitamins.
Hey, write your question down and check with your endo when you meet her/him. Please share her/his answer with me and other cysters, you can enlighten us

I will definitely share any info I get from my endo. I'm seeing my RE in two weeks and I plan on asking him if he knows anything about my results. Otherwise it will be November before I know anymore. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Hi,
I found this link, it might be helpful. http://www.labtestsonline.org/unders...s/t3/test.html
If I understand correctly, that if your TSH is normal, even if your T3 is not, you should be ok. In order to be considered hyperthyroid, your TSH has to be low. Less than .5 depending on lab, dr., etc.
If your TSH went down, I think that's good.
And its pretty normal for TSH levels to fluctuate a bit, as long as they aren't too high or too low.
Tsh is basically what stimulates T3 and T4, so if its levels are ok, even if you have a whacky number on T3, it might just be a normal hormone fluctuation.
But I'm curious to see what your RE says.

Total T3 doesn't tell you what's available for your body to use. It measures ALL of the body's total amount of T3, which includes any bound that your body can't make use of. To get a good measure you need free T3 along with that free T4 which is in fact low. It should be upper third of range to be optimal. TSH is the pituitary gland, and it can fluctuate somewhat.
If you were hyper, your tsh would be near zero (below .3) and your frees would be off the charts high, which they are not as indicated by your free T4.

Okay, so without all the different tests we really don't know for sure what my thyroid is doing then? Or can I assume based on these labs that my thyroid is okay?
I have my follow-up appt from my lap/ovarian drilling with my RE tomorrow so I'm going to ask him about this all. If he doesn't know then unfortunately I won't know anything until mid November when I meet with the endocronologist. I'm just very frustrated with my inablility to lose weight and wonder if there is an underlying reason other than pcos as I'm on Metformin since 2005 and it's done nothing for me! Thank you all for your help! When I get some answers I'll be sure to post and share.
