Default Labetalol Anyone???

Hi
I was put on this medication to treat 2 things anxiety this med per my doc shows to lower anxiety because it is an alpha and beta blocker and slightly elevated b/p 136/96 (this is high enough to cancel my IVF due to anxiety causes it to spike to 200/110)
I have only been on it in slow gradual doses does this medication really work well? I am on 200mg 2 times a day and have just been increased to 400mg 2 times a day. I don't know anyone IRL that is on it (there are sooo many meds to treat hbp)
thanks

I am on verapamil for migraines. I take 120mg daily. I used to take inderal (beta blocker) for anxiety in college which was only 40-80mg. If I do not take the medication each night, I end up with a killer migraine and a BP of 170/100.

That does seem like a high dose of medication, but seeing that your BP is so high when anxious it does make sense. Beta and Alpha blockers are highly effective. It is good you are building up to your dose as taking such a large one can have unwanted side effects.

Good luck. My best advice is avoid salty/greasy foods, cut back on caffeine and drink plenty of water. These things can help reduce your blood pressure as well. Take a deep breath and try to relax (I know a lot easier said than done-I am working on this one myself!)

Thank for the reply, I had to cut my dose initially in half because I was one of the few people to get the side effect of tingling scalp!! I haven't touched caffeine since I started TTC last year, and due to met fried foods are out not that I ate them before.
I go to a hypertension doc and she said other than the PCOS there is no other reason for my hbp except for my anxiety, So I am trying to relax and take it one day at a time- easier said than done.
