Default Labs done before or after appointment?

I need to make an appointment with my doctor because I'm almost out of my levothyroxine, but I don't know if I should call my doctor and request to have my labs done BEFORE I go to the doctor or wait and have them done AFTER so we can discuss my symptoms and what to test for at my appointment. What do you guys do?

I KNOW that my levels are not where they should be because I am not feeling better. What exactly should I request to be tested?

I don't intend on seeing this doctor for my thyroid much longer, but I need to go there to get a recommendation for an endo and also because I only have a few more weeks left on my meds.

Carrie, a few considerations are necessary. First, how long since you started treatment with levo? Usually 6 weeks is the minimum before they want to test again. Second, if it has been that long, you can certainly call today and ask for a new test because you feel lousy. You don't have to wait for your next appt., although the dr. will get into more detail about results at your office visit. If you get tested sooner, and dr. does want to change your dosage/meds, then it's all the sooner you can start the new plan. I would say it is worth calling soon if it's been close to 6 wks + since you started.

Thanks for the reply Lori. I actually had my appointment scheduled for yesterday so I just requested the labs while I was there. I am kind of glad that I waited because I don't think I could have gotten her to test the thyroid antibodies if I had just called. It's not that she didn't want to test them, but she seemed suprised I had not been tested before for Hashi's before and wouldn't have automatically ordered them, but that is silly because she is the one who dx me with hypothyroidism 4 months ago and she didn't order any of the tests before. Duhh...LOL. Doctors are weird sometimes.

So anyways, I guess in a few days I'll see where I'm at with this whole hypothyroidism thing.
