Unhappy lack of sexual desire

I just recently came across this board and omg--I am reading my life story. I basically only have a AF if brought on my provera. My OB has me taking provera every few months to bring on a cycle. Since quiting bcp's over a year ago, I have found that I have hirsutism (what a joy) Talk about lack of self esteem. OB doesn't think that I have PCOS because I don't fit the description of PCOS but that's okay because my primary care is well on here way to diagnosing me with it--even if the tests don't show it, I believe she is going to try me on met or spiro to help with the cycles and hair growth. I am 31 yrs old. You would think that someone would have figure this out a long time ago but I guess it is easier for the Dr.'s to shrug it off.

Anyhow, my question is, does anyone or did anyone else have problems with sexual desire prior to taking met or whatever has been prescribed for you? I am thinking that due to the lack of any kind of menstrual cycle whatsoever, I go from having no desires at all to having onlysome desire.

I am crossing my fingers that, in two weeks, when I go back to my primary care, she will prescribe something for me. I think I might just cry and then throw a party if I have AF on my one. Think I only had AF by myself once and that was with the onset of puberty.

It sounds like you've been through a lot of stress, especially in the last year... maybe your lack of libido is a psychological thing rather than physiological. I don't mean to make light of the problem - but sexual feelings can be temperamental, unpredictable things! I know my libido has gone seriously up and down in the past couple of years as I've grappled with infertility, body image and other stressful times. Are you on any meds? You should check out the fine print - drs often don't bother to tell you a drug can cause loss of libido, I guess because they don't think it's that important!!

Angry lack of libido

My pco's started during puberty and was diagnosed 11 years later. Although I've visited many doctors and took many wrong medication in those years, nobody was clever enough to diagnose the right disease...I had a terrible time, being insecure, feeling depressed...and worthless. It was all in my head they said...
I've been in a few relationships and now have a wonderful husband and amazingly 2 children (I couldn't get them they said). For my husband it's not always easy to live with someone who is suffering from a severe case of pms. He actually keeps a calendar of my cycle to know when not to argue and when to ask for sex or stay out of my way. If it wasn't for his understanding we might have broken up already a few times. His libido is also much higher than mine...and I wonder whether that has to do with pco's as well?? No doctor (again) gives you a clear answer, but I definetly think that if your ovaries don't work properly you have difficulty with desire.

Thank you both for your reply. Next Tuesday I have my follow-up with my PCP and am very anxious to see if and what I will be prescribed. The funny thing is that even if she prescribes something, I probably won't actually start the med for a few weeks because I am getting married in April and would really hate to have one heck of an AF during my wedding and honeymoon. Hopefully, once I am on some kind of medication or something that will help with the hair growth, my libido might increase. Don't want to aggresively attack the hair growth on my stomach until I get on something that might slow it down some.

i just wanted top say three things

congrats on figuring out what's going on

good luck with getting yourself the help you desire

and

be warned that metformin (also known as glucophage-- that one confused me at first) can take a few months to kick in. the time varies from woman to woman. so does the dosage required. i think it's a smart thing to wait until after your wedding. not just because of the af factor, but because met can make you really moody and the increases can make you feel real sick at first. i wound up stopping my met because it was interfering with school. if it was me, i might even wait a month or two after getting married, to settle into the whole married thing (i say this even though dh and i lived together before getting married). it is a great medicine for most people whether you have insulin resistance or not. you do have to give it time though. i didn't, but i had weird circumstances. even though, the year following my 2 1/2 months on met i had 5 periods. i usually get one period, maybe 2, a year without assistance (except now, because we got a baby and i'm feeding her. woo hoo! sorry, she's still a new baby )

again, lots of luck and welcome to our world (one of knowledge, understanding, and support!)

hannah

I second the waiting until after you are married - Met anyway can make you feel sick as a dog. I don't usually call doctors about meds after getting them, usually no problem, but after two weeks I called just to make sure I wasn't killing myself or something with the stuff. Then it suddenly all got better (my body must have figured out what was going on and gotten used to it). But yeah, met can make you feel sooo tired and sick.

hello, as for your libido...i was having issues with no sexual desire, i found a site which marketed something called Megabust (one of those goofy natural bust enhancers) however it promised a spike in libido as well so i thought i'd give it a try, and much to my surprise it worked!! worked is hardly even the proper word because i just couldn't get enough and my bf wanted to know what was wrong with me lol. But anyway it really is worth a try, no other side effects either.
