Question lactose intolerance and PCOS

I was wondering is there is anyone who developed a partial or full intolerance to lactose along with PCOS. I was able to enjoy milk for a number of years. Have developed this only in the last 5-6 years... Anyone with a similar problem?

Hmmm, that's really interesting. I just found out that I was lactose intolerant a week or so ago. I have to look into that. If I find anything, I'll post it here.

A bad bad awful awful stomach virus set it off for me. My dad just became lactose intolerant awhile back too.

I heard -- because I have no scientific data to prove it -- that as you get older, you become more and more lactose intolerant. It has to do with the consumption of milk, rather than PCOS or any other disease out there.

I know a ton of adults -- no kids yet -- that are lactose intolerant. I feel sick if I eat too many dairy products, so you won't find me drinking glasses of milk. I will eat cheese and yogurt however.

I have noticed my intolerance get worse over the last few years.
But I just chalked it up to getting older.

This is very true. Each person is born with a limited life span of lactase enzyme (the stuff that breaks down lactose in milk). It's one of the first enzymes we produce and one of the first to go. As we get older, the ability to produce the enzyme degrades. Lactose intolerance has, however, evolved depending on ethnicity. Northern Europeans tend to be blessed with lots of active lactase many years into life (makes sense considering how animal husbandry developed there) while many Asians/Africans develop problems with lactose at a young age.

Personally, milk started making me a bit gassy in my 30's. I don't drink fresh milk, I just eat highly fermented hard cheeses and yogurts because the bacteria during the culture process has eliminated much of that gas producing lactose.

I have recently notice that i can not eat any dairy at all or it makes me very ill, could this be from met or yaz or just being Pcos? my daughter can not have dairy either and she was born that way. Can i take something to help with the pain when i do eat dairy or should i just avoid it all together?

Up until age 6 I was extremely lactose intolerant, but after that I could handle more dairy. But after starting met I noticed that I can't handle as much or I bloat and get cramps. So I assume its the met. I don't know if there is anything to take to avoid these problems so I just steer clear of it. It's something I've grown up with so I'm used to it and I never know how bad the reaction is going to be, so I just avoid it totally. If you really want dairy like products, soy is good, especially the milk.

You can buy Lactaid at most pharmacies. It's located by all the stomach medicine. Follow package instructions and see if it helps.

I have started taking milk with cereal in the mornings for the last 1 month or so. The first few days I was so gassy LOL. but now i seem to be able to tolerate it quite a bit. I even crave for cheese nowadays !!
