WOW. I just looked at the site. I don't think I can swing $160 for a phone consultation. Hmmm...I'll have to see if there is a cheaper one somewhere else.

far out, that is a lot of money! As I said, I've never consulted with her, nor do I know her or her work well enough to recommend - she's just one of the very few practitioners who specialise in PCOS. I really hope you can find someone who charges more reasonable rates and knows the subject. I believe the problem with Dong Quai and betablockers in general is that they can increase photosensitivity - your skin's sensitivity to the sun. I hope you go well with the CO Packs. Can't wait to hear your next update.
I've missed you too! You've been in my prayers. I'm sorry your cycle got cancelled. I hope the CO packs help your ovaries settle down, ready for next time.
My acupuncturist recommended castor oil packs to help combat blood stasis. I used a pack last night, and a pack this afternoon, and... aside from the heating pad, I didn't really feel much. Should I? Is there something else I should do?
So long as you are putting a reasonable quantity of castor oil on (either directly onto the skin or better if you can tolerate the mess, via a compress) and a hot enough pack (as warm as you can stand without it being too uncomfortable) then it should be fine. Are you doing your whole lower abdomen or just one ovary, or ... ?
hey ladies.. just had a few questions for u all..
a)how helpful have the CO packs been?? i mean how many have ACTUALLY seen reduction in cysts
b)how long does it take to see results
c)once the cysts r gone have u noticed reduction in other PCOS symtoms.. did u manage to get reguler periods.. or see less hair fall or less hair growth??

I'm doing my whole abdomen. I think I have enough castor oil (my acupuncturist recommended drizzling it onto a rag, not soaking the rag), but I might need more heat. Yesterday, I used my laptop as my heat source, which does get pretty hot after a while. But I could stand it warmer, so I may have to try something else.
Just a quick question ladies... I'm due to start stims for my IVF on Saturday (16th). I'm just finishing up af and was wondering if I could go ahead and use the c/o for the next few days? Will it help in the supression stage of my cycle, I'm still taking Synarel? TIA.
mizzstee, I'm so sorry to hear your cycle got cancelled. *Hugs* When did your dr say you could try again? Good luck with the c/o!

Mommy1 - I don't see any reason why you couldn't continue with your CO. The main thing it does is increase circulation which helps the body to do it's job.
Felinity - More heat sounds like a plan. Maybe more CO as well? You don't want enough to make a mess that's for sure! But I've found that the oil is absorbed quite quickly so you have to put a reasonable amount on at the beginning.
Luxury - I haven't had an ultrasound for 5+ years before I started the packs and I haven't had one yet subsequently so I really don't have any proof that the number of cysts have reduced. I did have a period (after an absence of 3.5 years) after 6-8 weeks I think of being on the CO packs. I have now had 3 periods in a row, roughly a month apart. However, again, the CO is not the only thing I have been doing, although I personally believe that it has had a significant if not exclusive effect on this. I have significantly less excess hair growth, but I would attribute this to Saw Palmetto over the Castor Oil packs. Hope this information is of some use to you.
Hi ladies. Well, I started the castor oil packs on the 1st. I do them 4 on and 3 off. I havent really noticed anything, although the heat from the heating pad is nice. I guess we'll see if it's helping when af is due. I'm hoping the packs will absorb the cysts on my ovaries and regulate my af. So we'll see.....

Can I use castor oil packs during my menstrual period?
I've read you shouldn't use them during af. However, I've also heard that if it's light it shouldn't be a problem, only avoid if it's a heavy af.
Would the c/o be just as effective if I just rub it on my skin and not use the heating pad?? I only ask because every night is so busy with activities with dd that by the time I'm ready for bed I just want to crash and don't feel comfortable leaving a heating pad on me while I fall asleep. If it's better with the heating pad I'll just try and stay awake a little longer, not a huge deal.
Also, would it be best for me to stop c/o when I start stims?
TIA ladies!

Felinity as mommy1 said, the castor oil and the heat will both increase the circulation in the area underneath the back. Usually this is a good thing, however it can increase the contractions of your uterus and the rate at which your endometrium (womb lining) is shed. If the period is light, then this is a good thing, if it is heavier, then it may be more of an inconvenience. Experiment with it and see how you go. You know your body best.
Mommy1, the heat is supposed to be a really important part of the treatment, but I hear you about the need to collapse at the end of the day and I think it is a good thing not to leave an electric warming pad on you when you are sleeping. Apart from fire risks, there is also the electromagnetic field which is detrimental to health. I don't have an electric warming pad, I use one of two things:
1. A hot water bottle - this is the warmest and longest lasting option, but mine was ancient and sprang a slow leak one night it's now gone to the happy hunting ground in the sky. I should buy a new one one of these days - it was brilliant. Easy to fill (my method was to fill it with boiling water from the kettle 2/3 full, then expel ALL AIR (this is very important, if you leave air in there, then it will cool down fairly quickly, if you expel all the air then it will keep it's heat as long as all night), seal, wrap in a flannellete jacket and you are good to go.
2. You can get a reusable chemical heating pad made from a supersaturate solution of sodium acetate (vinegar and sodium bicarbonate - nothing to be afraid of at all) which heats up when you click a metal clicker inside and you can reactivate them by boiling them in water for 10 minutes.
These are the ones I use. They are quite comfortable - the other ones look a bit prickly. They are more expensive, but probably worth it and for you folks in the US the exchange rate will make it less painful. It's a very dodgy product name but they are brilliant. Good customer service too ... I had one with a manufacturing defect which caused it to burst one night when I was using it. I called up and complained and they sent me out a replacement one and an extra one as a 'sorry'.
HOpe some of this babble helps you ladies, I feel like I've been waffling on for a while so I'll leave it at that.
All the best to you all. I look forward to hearing how the packs work for you new ladies.
