Mine wants me to go off Met, but continue on Synthroid. He suspects my long cycles have much more to do with thyroid function than PCOS. Anyone else ever hear of this? |

Did you have Insulin Resistance problems to begin with to get prescribed Glucophage (Met)? If you did then you should stay on it, and If you dr doesn't want to work with you I would fire him and find me a new dr KWIM????

I am actually able to control my cravings, exercise and lose weight now. I think that many problems are multi-faceted, and PCOS is one of them. Maybe you should see a different doctor for a second opinion? |

After I had my son I was off met for almost a year and notice my cycles had gotten worse. Heavier af, shot lh phase. After I went back on they went back to normal. I had slight insulin resistance. But when I'm on met its in the normal range.
Are you seeing a endo or primary? |

She said in her opinion if you have a form of insulin resistance then it needs to be addressed.

There's no reason for an either/or mentality with these meds.

This month again im on CD 9 and i think i am ovulating today.. with the EWCM, cramps, ect.. But i am on Metformin to help control my weight plus i have metabolic syndrome (PRE-Diabetes) i am VERY overweight, and i have very irregular periods that is why my dr put me on met.. but i don't have any evidence of PCOS based on my SHG and my LH and FSH ratio.. and i get my periods every month whether on met or not.. once in a while i will skip a month.. i also am not IR.

My Mood: Points: 324.56 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 324.56 | I started eltroxin 100mcg about 5 months ago. I started metformin about a month and a bit ago. Before the metformin, my cycles went as long as 50 and 57 days. On the metformin, my last period was 2 days and a few days of spotting, and i'm expecting a 28-ish day cycle (based on discharge, which has always been spot on).
My GP put me on both drugs ... I don't see why you can't be on both of them. I've never heard of any reason why you shouldn't be on both. |

So right now I'm focusing on the synthyroid which has not only been working for my thyroid levels but all my hormones seem to have fallen into place.

If your issues are thyroid related and not insulin related, it makes sense for you get off of met.

I would get a second opinion if possible because I don't think your doctor is correct. Both medicines are very important for your health and are prescribed for different reasons, and in my case, equally important. I hope you get it figured out!
