The Language of Infertility
Infertility has its own language. When you add the mix of Internet to the language of infertility, the amount of alphabet soup served on a daily basis increases even more. Here is a list of the most commonly used abbreviations online in the infertility community on forums and chats.
AF - Aunt flow, menstrual cycle
AFP - Alphafetoprotein test
BBT - Basal Body Temperature
BD - Baby Dance (intercourse or sex to produce a child)
BF - Breast feeding
BP - Blood pressure or birth plan
CD – Cycle Day
CM - Cervical Mucous
DD - Due Date or Dear Daughter
DH - Dear husband, or other d word depending on the context
DPO – Days Post Ovulation
DS - Dear son
EDD or EDC - Due date
EW - Egg white
FET – Frozen Embryo Transfer
FM – Fertile Mucous
FMU - First Morning Urine
HPT - home pregnancy test
IVF - In vitro fertilization
IUI – Intrauterine Insemination
LMP – Last Menstrual Period
LPD - Luteal phase defect
MW – midwife
O - Ovulation, or orgasm, take it in context
OB - obstetrician
OPK - Ovulation prediction kit
PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
PG - pregnant
RE - reproductive endocrinologist
RPS - Real pregnancy signs
RRL - Red raspberry leaf
SAHM - Stay at home mom
TTC - trying to conceive
US - ultrasound
WAHM - Work at home mom
