I had surgery just over a month ago ~ lap/curette and ovarian drilling.

How is it performed? Can anyone give me the "play by play" on what goes on?

Below is a good description of what happens:
How is a laparoscopy performed?
The laparoscope is a sterile surgical instrument that has special optics that allow small amounts of light to be transmitted effectively.
Carbon dioxide gas is pumped through a channel in the laparoscope into the abdomen. This creates a space within which the surgeon can look or operate.
A laparoscopy is performed under a
general anaesthetic. A small cut measuring 1 to 2cm is made in or just below the belly-button. Through this cut, the laparoscope is gently introduced into the abdomen.
Additional instruments are often required. These are usually introduced via even smaller cuts in the skin above or to the side of the pubic hair.
How does the patient feel after a laparoscopy?
There is usually pain around the cuts in the skin and often a sense of general discomfort over the abdomen. Many patients report pain at their shoulder tip, which is due to the indirect effect of small amounts of carbon dioxide remaining in the abdomen. Pain relief is always given.
Most patients are fully recovered within 48 to 72 hours.
I've had 2 laparoscopy's, the last one just over a month ago. Everyone reacts differently and it also depends on what they do while they're on there. You will feel very drowsy afterwards so sleep as much as you can, and rest rest rest, do NOT do too much. I made that mistake and paid for it. You will bleed a bit after the op so have pads at home in preparation for that. Also make sure you have painkillers ~ they didn't provide any for me so I had to buy them in advance. You will feel quite crampy for a few days and it is a bit sore. Have you had a general anesthetic before? With me they took me into a little room outside the operation theatre where they put on some heart monitors and put a needle into your hand for for pre-op med and anesthetic and about 2 mins after that goes in, you're out to it! I felt all woozy and everything was blurry and then asleep. You wake up in recovery and the nurses will be keeping an eye on you, asking how your pain is etc. If they offer you pain relief, take it!! They gave me morphine because I was in quite a bit of pain (but thats more likely due to the drilling!) As you slowly wake up they will give you something to eat and drink and the surgeon will come see you to discuss the surgery and how it went and what they found etc.
I
had 3 incision sites, but everyone is different, some people have 1 or 2. They go through your belly button and I had one on my bikini line and another one on the left of my belly button. Ask them if you have stitches that need to be removed (hopefully they will tell you but mine didnt! lol) The stitches usually have to come out about 4 days after surgery.
If you're working, take at least a few days off work, I was told to take a week off which is a good recommendation. The pain from the actual op itself wasnt too too bad but the gas and effects from the anaesthetic are a bit icky so you need to take it easy!

Does the doctor want you to get the surgery asap or when you get the time off (if i have to do the surgery i was going to do it during Thanksgiving or Christmas break when I'm off of school)?

I think depends on the individual and on the doctor also. Mine wanted me in fairly quickly so I only had to wait 2 weeks which was good.
Hope my essay helps lol.
