Question Laparoscopic Ovarian Cautery - Has Anyone Had This Done?

I am scheduled for Laparoscopic Ovarian Cautery (LOC) surgery on May 18. Has anyone had this procedure done? I'm very apprehensive about what to expect (before, during and after).

I would be interested to know how many other soulcysters have had this done and if they had success TTC. We have been TTC for over 4 years now, with PCOS diagnosis only this year (long story). I have been on clomid, the metformin and clomid, and now this. After the LOC surgery and continuation with metformin, we will see how I do and go from there. Next will be the LSH shot with metformin, and I'm hoping we don't get that far.

Please let me know any personal experiences/information that you might have regarding this procedure. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Vanessa,
I would imagine that it would feel daunting to have an upcomming scheduled procedure. I hope that you are hanging in there in the meantime. And best wishes for the (LOC)!

Would you mind saying what the Laparoscopic Ovarian Cautery is and (basically) what is it supposed to do for you? I have heard of Ovarian Drilling and Wedge Resection but I have to admit that I have never heard of the Laparoscopic Ovarian Cautery. If it is for example similar to the drilling - would you mind saying how they compare?

Again, good thoughts to you!

Laparoscopic Ovarian Cautery is the same as drilling. There are three incisions made, one near the belly button and one over each of the ovaries. The purpose of ovarian drilling is to destroy (cauterize with laser energy in my case) the testosterone producing tissue of the ovary. Depending on the number of visible follicles, there could be 4-20 "holes" cauterized on the ovary.

I am having the procedure done since I have not had any response to Clomid cycles or Clomid and Metformin cycles in the hope that I will "o" on my own (or with some assistance) and have a semi-normal AF. I chose to have the surgery performed instead of having injections, due to the risks that are involved with both I chose what I feel is the lesser of the two. The entire surgery is only scheduled for an hour and I will be able to go home immediately after, my doctor said that it is a 'band-aid' surgery (with the incisions being so small, only two stiches to close).
