In a nutshell-you are put under and they go in through your belly button to check for endo/scar tissue-if they find anything minor they will clean it up then. If they find that you have a lot you will have to be opened up completely-which will result in major surgery and 3-6 weeks recovery. I had the option to decline the major surgery if they found it necessary during my lap, which I did decline. Luckily in my case I only had a small amount of scar tissue which was cleaned up during my lap.
If you just have the lap done you will have a small incision in my belly button and 1-2 other small incisions above your pubic hairline. You will want to take it easy for a few days post-lap, but in my case I was feeling pretty good the day after...much better than I had expected.
Good luck! It is a little scary to think about, but once it is over you will feel much better!

My Mood: Points: 826.85 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 826.85 | I've had 2 laps in the last 7 years. They took out an ovary and the small football size cyst it was attached to the first time. The second time they removed scar tissue.
You'll be uncomfortable for a couple days afterwards while the gas they use to expand your abdomen settles and goes away, but it's not too bad. My belly button gets infected every now and then, but I didn't have to have major surgery. |

They pumped my insides up with gas and inserted a thin wire through an incision near my belly button for the camera I think. The docs clear up what they can - if it's worse they'll invite you back... I now have a tiny scar left.

My Mood: Points: 2,349.39 Bank: 70,084.32 Total Points: 72,433.72 | I had a lap done in July to remove some cysts, my Dr also removed some endo and flushed out my tubes cause my right one was blocked. Really it was all pretty simple I was pretty sore and swollen for a few days but other than that I was fine. I have a small incison right inside my belly button but you can barely see it, and one at my pubic line. My best advice is when you come home after the surgery eat light like soup or something case you may feel queasy from being put under at least I was. Hope all goes well for you...Good Luck!!! |

Not that I want to get your hopes up, but the first lap did me no good. I hope yours gives you better luck. So what is your pain like? Mine is a stabbing pain that started Feb 2006 and now it is constant stabbing or achy pain. This next surgery scheduled for Nov 8, 2007 they are going to take out scar tissue, do ovarian drilling, and an appendectomy. We are hoping that one of these works. You might want to get them to check your appendix while they are in there. When is/was your lap? |

My Mood: Points: 180.51 Bank: 1,839.84 Total Points: 2,020.35 | angel - MINE TOO!!! My left side every now and then acts up, but it mostly stays on the right. What all do you do for it? I am unfortunatly on Lortabs (not everyday, just when the pain is really bad) and I do acupuncture every week and now I do physical therapy. I have so many issues all together it is hard to say what the actual problem is.
On my first lap the report showed that my appendix looked fine, but when I went in for post op visit, the dr. told me I needed to go get it taken out and gave me the name of a surgeon. I was very aggravated to say the least. I said so you are telling me to go see this surgeon and say, excuse me will you take out my appendix just for the heck of it? Some dr.'s are just stupid. I am on my 8th one now and he figures while he is in there he will go ahead and take it out that way no one can say, well its your appendix. So I am okay with that, since I really don't want to be cut on in the future. Keep me posted about your pain. I wish you the best. |

My Mood: Points: 180.51 Bank: 1,839.84 Total Points: 2,020.35 | If I was you, I would demand something be done sooner. That is part of my problem, I waited 4 months before I said something and then another 4 months thinking I was crazy before I found another dr. I have been through countless dr's trying to figure out what is wrong with me. So demand, demand ultrasounds, medicine, MRI's whatever it takes. Let them know you are serious. I know how you feel, the more I move around the worse I am. So don't let them think you are crazy, go to another dr. Some are better than others about listening. Keep us posted. |
