Default Laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, HSG - anyone want to share their experiences?

I'm having all 3 of these procedures done at the same time in December and would love to hear about your experiences or any advice you may have. Please and thanks!

I had my lap and hysteroscopy done this past January. I found after the fact that the doc wanted to do an HSG as well, but couldn't bc there was too much blood and such from after the hysteroscopy to do it (thx for ever telling me up front doc!). My surgery went well. The biggest thing I hated about the surgery was that I did not respond well to the anesthesia and vomitted hours later after getting home. Once that happened I was feeling good. That night of my surgery I was on my laptop doing some work and otherwise I was just taking my pain meds and trying to lay down as much as I could the first day or two. I have 3 cats and even though my Dad and step-mom were in town helping my bf and me through all of this, the cats wanted to stay with me at night. I was so worried of them wanting to jump on me or kneed on my abdomen area, but they behaved too. I had my surgery done on a Thursday so all I did was take off that day and Friday for after surgery care (took off work the day before bc my pre-op was the day before and it was my bf's Christmas day). By Monday I was working a full day, though I do work from home and just worked from bed with the laptop. I don't think I drove for at least a week after, but that is only bc of everyone around that was driving for me and I just didn't want to take the risk if they were here.

Did you have specific questions that I didn't cover above in some form?

Thank you!
Do you know roughly how long the surgery was? Did you have much (if any) vaginal bleeding from the hystero?

I had an HSG about a month or so ago. It wasn't a barrel of laughs but it wasn't horrendous either. It was kind of painful when the doc put the catheter through my cervix, and when she injected the dye. But it was over fairly quickly. I bled for a couple days after wards but that's normal. Don't forget to take some painkillers before hand.
Unfortunately, I have one blocked tube.

My HSG didn't work so I'm having a hysteroscopy (with fluid to check my tubes) the day before Thanksgiving. I'm hosting T-day dinner and worried that I will feel like cra* for it. I'm having anesthesia just for the 'scopy because of all my painful experiences thus far. I'm curious to hear more details about how people felt after the 'scopy. I'll be happy to report back after mine is done, but I'm still hoping for a miraculous pregnancy next week so I can just cancel the darn thing!

I had the HSG and Lap done last year (at different times). The HSG wasn't too bad. For the Lap, the build up was uncomfortable - all the laxatives and well having to empty the stomach and all. My surgery was delayed about 2hrs due to the dr being late so I had to wait a long time at the surgical place (with no food/water of course). I don't remember the aftermath being too bad - just be sure to take the pain meds at least for a few days and get some good rest. I teach yoga and within a week I was teaching again (I had to take it easy though). I do remember it was hard to get in and out of bed - you don't realize how much you use your ab muscles!

Good luck and try not to worry too much about the procedures - it will be behind you before you know it!

Mine was about 2 1/2 hours, which was a lot longer than expected but all went well....I had all three procedures. I bled a fair amount for a day or two after the surgery, about as much as a heavy period.

Took a day or two to recover from the anaesthetic and like a previous poster mentioned, the fasting and laxatives meant it was quite a few days until my digestive system normalized. I lived on toasted white bread and ginger ale for a couple of days, it was all I could stomach. The only real pain I felt was in my neck and shoulders, which is a side effect of the gas they use to distend your belly during the surgery. You'll be pretty bloated so get yourself a comfy housedress or something like that.

Good luck to you!

Not a problem. I think I was in surgery for about 2 hours (maybe a little less). I remember being told surgery should only be about an hour, but then after the fact my bf and my parents told how they went out to get breakfast and came back and I still wasn't out of surgery. I think the time will really all depend on what the doc finds once he's in there. I know for me the lap part of the surgery probably took the longest bc of all the endo I had.

As for bleeding, yes, you will have some bleeding. Bring a pad with you (or they'll give you one like they did to me even though I brought one myself). If I remember correctly it was just light bleeding though and I think it stopped within the 1st week.

Oh, with the hysto, your doc will more than likely leave a balloon drain in you and remove it during your post op. Expect a little discomfort after that gets removed. It didn't hurt at all when he actually removed it, but after a while I just felt discomfort (kind of like the discomforting feeling after getting an SIS done if you've ever had that before).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yep! This too! I was either drinking water or Ginger Ale (why is it that Ginger Ale tastes so good when you're not feeling well, but otherwise tastes disgusting when you're feeling ok?) and my step-mom made me homemade chicken & rice soup. The first day I started with broth only, day 2 was broth and some rice, and I think by day 3 or 4 I was having it with the chicken in there.

Ack... does this interfere with TTC? I was hoping for TTC the same cycle.

I didn't have one put in, and was given the go-ahead to TTC again right away. I guess it all depends on what they find during the surgery. Hope that is the case with you!

Maybe I got it bc of them fixing the septate uterus. Depending on how quickly your body heals and you can handle pain, you might not want to be having sex within the first week, but I'm sure you've already spoken to your doctor about that.

So I should be prepared to bleed a bit and not be able to eat much for a few days.
Oh, and what kind of pre-surgery prep is there? I've heard of something called bowel prep - did you guys have to do that? And if so, what is it?

Actually I haven't. I never think of things when the doc calls. I just didn't think it was going to be a big deal. I will ask when I go in. Even if it does mess up TTC, this is something that needs to get done so I can't do anything about it. I just hope this cycle will be a couple days longer than usual and will push the hysteroscopy to the front of that CD5-10 window, further from O time.
