My Mood: Points: 8,353.73 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 8,353.73 | Lard to prevent hair growth?? Ladies,
I was doing a search on the web and found a site that suggested that for natural hair inhibition we could use lard - yup the lard that pple use to cook with !! The instructions were to apply it liberally 2 times weekly - overnight for 3 months and it will basically destroy the hair roots.
Has anyone else heard of this?? Also where could I get lard from?? I could not find it in my local supermarket. At this point I will definately be the gunea pig. I am sure my DH will not appreciate it for that time but hey, after when I dont have as much hair he will love it!! |

Thank you for sharing!!!!! I know that this does not sound like it is going to be a wonderful experience, but I am with you sweetheart, I would definetely try it. I am also with you on not being sure where you could find lard....but if I find that out I will let you know hun.
mlbarry brings up a very good point about breakouts...because lard is so oily...I wonder how much problems that would cause to your skin. I think I am going to have to try to find out.
Please hun, if you try this keep us updated and I will be sure to keep you updated as well if I try this!
Thank you for sharing!!! ::Hugs::
I love you girls

What could possibly be in the lard to destory hair roots? Thinking about this one....
So far lately, I've read that soy, red lentils (red dal), and turmeric all inhibit hair growth if applied to the skin, but lard getting rid of it completely. Hmm.... When I was a little girl my best friend's family used lard: possibly try Mexican food stores.

My Mood: Points: 29,870.89 Bank: 6,998.13 Total Points: 36,869.02 | Found the lard reference at Cosmetic Enhancements Forum. http://www.cosmeticenhancementsforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php/p-5329.html
This is actually a quote taken from one of the replies. "Diet
When you eat a lot of fat, it seems that the sebaceous glands that oil the hair root become over active and swollen. Then the hair root becomes weak. In the old days when men went to war and didnt want to have to shave, they rubbed lard or sheep fat into their faces to destroy the hair roots. The same can be seen today in cultures such as the Chinese who often eat a lot of fat: male Chinese tend to have very little hair on their faces.
So, completely cutting out animal fats, cheeses, rich curries and any food floating in grease, would be good. But it is, of course, important to keep up the intake of beneficial Essential Fatty Acids which come from oily fish (mackerel, herring, salmon, trout, sardines, pilchards etc) and from whole grains, nuts and seeds, also avocados and soaked almonds.
In addition avoid fungal foods including cheese, mushrooms, vinegar and marmite and aviod products containing yeast such as beer, lager and bread"

My Mood: Points: 29,870.89 Bank: 6,998.13 Total Points: 36,869.02 | a Lard follow up I tracked down Dr. Ali (made statement about Lard in "You" Magazine in London). He's pretty easy to find as he has his own website. The "You" Magazine archive search is at http://www.drali.com/you.aspx ... Unfortunately, it wasn't working when I tried. I e-mailed to let them know.
I'm very interested in what else he knows...about many subjects, etc... It says on the site, he is "[a]ttracting 3 million readers each week." Interesting!!!
Also, sources of Lard. My FIL used Lard a lot in his bakery. My DH said you might try buying a pound at your bakery or just ask if they still use it. Look for 100% pure Lard. I might call my FIL tonight to see what he has to say....
Also, I got this from my library magazine search.

HEALTHALERT: All that antilard nonsense is just a big fat misunderstanding. Lard-which has less saturated fat than butter and almost none of the trans-fatty acids you'll find in polyunsaturated substitutes like Crisco-is a comparatively "good" fat. More important, it's a taste-good fat, yielding flakier biscuits, crispier fried chicken, better tamales, and more flavorful refried beans. What you don't want, though, is the mass-produced stuff (often hydrogenated for longer shelf life) you'll find at the supermarket. You want pure lard, ultra-white and silky smooth-what the fancy chefs are using. My favorite is Niman Ranch's back-fat lard ($16 for a five-pound package; 510-808-0340). This California meat marketer raises its pigs outdoors (depressingly uncommon in these days of factory farming), mostly in the Midwest, where cold winters and hot summers require insulation, yielding a superior one-and-a-quarter- to one-and-a-half-inch layer of back fat. "We want fat hogs," says Niman Ranch's Frankie Whitman. "Our goal is taste, not leanness." -FRANCINE MAROUKIAN
Other sources: Ham I Am!, 800-742-6426; $8.80 for a four-pound pail. John F. Martin & Sons, 717-336-2804; $2 a quart.
