So if you eat lard you lose hair and if you put the lard on your face you lose hair too.

I'm totally confused.

Also, I consume my fair share of red meat and fat, because of LC, so is this to say I am going to lose my hair.

Someone please help me to understand this.

Well, guess what?

I've got LARD! Eww.....still haven't done anything with it. My DH thought the whole thing was interesting....and cheap enough to try! LOL Um, yeah... He got a pound of it for $2.30 at the local German store, Edleweiss, here in town (Portland).

Now do I have the guts to try it???? Me, a girl who doesn't even eat Pork? No offense to anyone that does, btw..

*fretting* *thinking* ugh.....

It really does sound so crazy!

Please someone help me get the courage......

Default Whats the worst that could happen?

The worst thing the lard could probably do would be causing acne maybe. If having to pick one or the other I'd take acne over excess facial hair. Once I can get my hands on some lard I'm going to try it. Its cheap and it can't hurt to try.

Can I bring up one point about the Chinese. They are genetically programmed to not only have less hair follicles than Caucasians, but also the hair follicles are much less sensitive to the effects of androgens. I don't know about the people who utilized lard as a subsitute for a razor, but as far as saying the Chinese have less hair since they eat a lot of fat, it's more like they have less facial hair since they have less responsive hair follicles! Believe me, I eat fat, that isn't stopping the stubborn few whiskers I have around my face!

Hi ladies,
I still have not found it in my stores BUT was told by my mom (she knew of the saying but was not sure that it was not an old wife's tale) that it should not lead to acne because the instructions she told me was to put a THIN layer on at night before I go to bed - not enough to grease up the bedsheets. Then wash it off in the morning - use your usual scrub, cleanser, toner and astringent combination and we should be fine unless we have a reaction to the actual lard itself.
I think that I am going to try to but it off the internet.
PS I dont think that we should be eating it cause you know it is a heart attack waiting to happen.

Thanks so much ladies!!
hth.

Well, as far as the Chinese question. I decided to look up the traditional diet...

I was thinking of doing some actual journal searching for it, but then ran into this on the net. Has a nice history..:

    http://www.westonaprice.org/traditional_diets/food_in_china.html
"Traditionally lard was used in cooking..." But I suppose one would need to find a few more sources.....

Anyway, for the sake of ending this question with myself. I've decided to try it. Myth or not I shall see! And will share my results on the whole lard thing... Anyone else who is trying it please share your results!

I believe it was apply in on your face twice a week for 3 months? Well, last night I rubbed it into my skin. It had a light ham type smell to it as I applied...but that's to be expected... I left it on all night... it's greasy! So Tuesdays and Fridays through Sept...ugh... but not so bad I suppose.... Hmm, maybe I'll also try the essential oil treatment on my head (for hair loss as mentioned at http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/ in recipe section ) those nights too...

Why I'm still nervous about it: don't want acne.... but the benefits (if true) are far reaching compared to any temporary acne.

Of course, none of this is really scientific...just personal experiments...

this has come up before. I am skeptical because what will lard really do? Just put some fatty acids into the top layers of your skin; what is this mysterious chemical that occurs in lard and why haven' the pharmaceutical companies extracted it and turned it into some miracle cream. Vaniqa sells for 50 dollars for a small tube and there is a LOT of money in the hair (too much and too little) industry. I would be shocked if this were a miracle cure that no major company has tapped yet.

I almost doubt they would want to sell a miracle cure.....then they wouldn't have people re-buying it over and over again. Once everyone would use it, they wouldn't have anyone else to buy it. That would be nice though.

    Default lard at walmart.....?

Hi ladies, I was reading this post and thought that I would tell ya that our walmarts in (IL/IN) carry lard. It comes in a big container. Only the super-walmarts, not the regular walmart. Just an idea? Will someone please let me know what happens~if it works Thanks and Good Luck!
