Hi Jessica,
I am a registered dietitian and medical nutritionist in LV, NV specializing in PCOS. I work for two fantastic MD's that are endocrinologists with great PCOS knowledge. We are at the Fertility Center of Las Vegas. Dr. Bruce Shapiro and Dr. Said Daneshmand.
I hope this helps!

Hi! Do you want an endo or ob/gyn within your network? I would need to know what insurance you have, and then a list of providers, then I could certainly ask Dr. Shapiro his thoughts. The primary treatment for PCOS is nutrition/activity, more lifestyle than anything else, but it is important to have an MD to follow your labs to confirm your progress either one or two times per year. If you have not met with a dietitian familiar with PCOS, this would be crucial as well. My services are available to you even if you are not currently trying to get pregnant. Keep that in mind!

Lory i just spoke with HPN and the only way they would cover a consult with a nutritionist or dietician is if it were for treatment of diabetes and i definetly cant afford to pay for the visits. Im still paying for all my IUIs but i got a cute kid out of it lol. Anyway, if you have any other way to go about the visits let me know. Thanks so much

I do hold a monthly PCOS support group, and this is free. Many women that have already seen me as a patient attend. They may be able to share their experiences and how they have changed their lifestyle. The next one is Thu May 28. Check out the fertility center website for additional nutrition information
I hope we can help you out! I understand how frustrating insurance companies are..

I am not familiar with Dr. Volker, but I am glad you are happy with your medical professionals. Please keep in mind that our Support Group is free, pass it along to your friends with PCOS. Visit the Fertility Center of Las Vegas website for the schedule. We have a PCOS corner where we post upcoming events.
Hope this helps,
Lory, RD

Lory, do your doctors treat patients if they're not trying to get pregnant? I'm having a hard time finding a doctor. I was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago by a gyno and she had no idea how to treat it. I don't even know what type of doctor I should go to at this point. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Hi Tara Jane,
Generally an OB/GYN or Endocrinologist will assist in treating PCOS along with a registered dietitian. The care plan is primarily proper nutrition and exercise. There may be some medciations involved depending on individual circumstances, but that is all dependant on the MD as well. Monitoring foods that elicit an insulin response is key. Unfortunately our practice is such that the MDs do not have the manpower to treat women who are not currently trying to get pregnant at this time, but we are working on structuring a PCOS protocol. BUT I DO take outside referrals. You can come see me for general health and nutrition at the center. I also hold a FREE monthly PCOS Support Group where women in Southern Nevada can connect with other women with PCOS. They can ask questions about their doctors and nutrition plan, and success in controlling their PCOS symptoms. I highly recommend it. Contact me should you have any other questions!
Lory
