I have a question. I read that Laser treatment for facial hair removal isn't as successful for women of color or with dark skin as it is with women with a fair complexion. I am considering the idea of laser treatment but I do know what to waste my time or money if it is ineffective for me. I am a african american women who has very dark and very course facial hair under my chin and on my side burns. I also have a mustache but the hair there is very thin so I just cut it off with a scissor. To remove the facial hair I just use nair but by the end of the week, I need to lather up again. So does anyone know how successful laser treatment can be for me?
There are Black women in the waiting room of the place I get my laser done here in Manhattan. One of the ladies that works there is also Black and she is completely hairless and told me she gets treatments done at the clinic as well. So, although not all machines are effective, there must be some out that are....
of course...I can only speak for myself. Good Luck!

Thanks for responding to my post about " Laser for black women" I realized that you are located in Manhattan, I am located in Brooklyn. I am interested in having laser hair removal done, and since you said there is a few black women that go where you go. Can you tell me where you go for your laser hair removal and how much does it cost?
I know I'm waaay late in replying to this...but I hope you will take a look. I remembered a thread about this a while back and it said that the Coolglide laser is the only FDA approved laser that is safe for all skin types. Here is the link to that thread. I'm considering getting it done early next year myself. I am a lightskinned bi-racial woman (black and white) with very dark hair. I think I will stick with the cool glide laser myself.

I'm medium complexion, and CoolGlide has worked well for me, so far.
I'm on my 4th treatment...5th one coming up in a couple of weeks.
My Dr is in ATL, and I bought a package of unlimited treatments for 1 year for 'about' $700. (chin area only)
It was a worthwhile investment for me...the plucking is SO annoying, and the brownspots fade on their own within couple weeks of treatment because there's no hair growing there.
I haven't had any redness or irritation after the treatments, whatsoever...
