I have read a lot about laser/electrolysis treatments on this forum, but most seem to be from the US etc and I want to know some stuff about what's going on here is Aus.
I have, I guess what most cysters with hair would say, was moderate hirsutism on patches of my chin (and some developing on my upper lip). I was on Diane until a few months ago to control it and it certainly helped. But I couldn't stay on the pill cos it seems my body didn't like the high levels of oestrogen (I got shocking migraines - at least 3 a week and I decided hair or no hair I wasn't staying on it). Anyway, I pluck for at least 30 mins a day and get ingrown hairs which make it look obvious unless I have makeup on. I don't want to shave cos I have good patches on my chin and when I do shave it all feels prickly when it grows back rather than just the patches.
So I am thinking of getting either laser or electrolysis done. I am interested in what you guys found was the best and how much it cost and most importantly if you had laser treatment what was the type of laser that was used. I am in Tas so I may have to travel if I want to get a particular type of laser done.
I hope you can all offer some assistance. I should be a good candidate for laser as I have fair skin (thanks to my pommy dad) and am brunette, but have heard electrolysis is more permanent.
Thanks heaps!

Hi Arctic.
Sorry, I can't help with your questions as I haven't tried it, but if you have no luck here at the Aussie/Kiwi forum, you could try the Posaa website, the address is: www.posaa.asn.au
There is a hair forum at their site which might give you some answers. You might also meet some fellow Tasmanians through their meet up sections, support groups etc.
Hope that helps.

I'm having a combination treatment of IPL/Laser. So far I have only had one treatment. I'm having these done on the Gold Coast at Alive Clinic. My first treatment cost $80 which i thought was rather reasonable, I was expecting around $200 so a bonus I'd say.
All I do is go in 30 mins before I'm to have it done and rub some numbing cream on. Some people say its really painful I found it just stings every now and then, it just makes you jump you know its going to sting a little in some places but the tiny little bit of pain is well worth it.
I used to have to shave everyday and by the afternoon I had 5 o'clock shadow. Just after one treatment I only need to shave like every other day and some of the hair has disappeared completely. They reckon it will take about 8 treatments, but if I had to go every other month and not have the embarasement of excess hair that would be fine too.
I hope this helps
Lynda

Dr John Mahoney is talking about the right laser/IPL hair removal for your skin type at this year's POSAA PCOS conference in Sydney (on next Saturday 30 Sept, go to www.posaa.asn.au, hurry last registrations close this Tues). He is also campaining for Medicare to list it for women with PCOS. This is one reason why POSAA needs members so that when they go to the government to say that there is a need for this and the government asks "well how many members do POSAA have?" it has more clout if the numbers are higher. Membership is only $20 (Aust) per year with a $10 joining fee. It will be great to get hair removal on Medicare.
