    Default Laser Hair Removal

    Hi

I just wanted to say to anyone who is thinking of doing this to go for it!

For the last few years my facial hair has been a huge problem and embarrassment for me. I had to shave almost every day and by evening it was bad again. I'd spend hours plucking hairs out etc.

I finally got the courage to go to a hair removal place (Laserase I think, in Finchley London). It cost £100 and on certain parts of my face it hurt like heck! If i'm honest, I actually cried a bit when they were doing the side of my face (where I have the biggest concentration of hair).

But the good news is that after the first few days (where a lot of hairs were coming to the surface - dead hairs I imagine) my face was SMOOTH! For the last 5 weeks i've had virtually no hair, I get up and don't have to shave, my face is hairless!

I have my next treatment in April. And after that i'll probably go once every 6 months if I need it. But it has changed my life completely and I wish i'd done it years ago!

Now, if I can just get my butt reduced then life would be bliss

    Go Mrs Beavs!

Thats the first positive thing I have EVER heard about Laser! Some say it didnt work some say it made things worse, and if its only a £100 I will most definately look into it

You have made my day !

My nearest clinic would be Southampton, I sent for a very posh booklet last year, had it hidden in an old handbag since, and I very nearly threw it away TODAY!

LOL it must have been meant to be that I read your post, Im so very happy for you, well done xx

I have been getting it too and I totally agree with you. I go to the Acculite salon in the Marriot hotel in Glasgow. You get 50% off if you have a letter from your doc to confirm that you have PCOS. I have got a block of 6 sessions with one free but after 1 I have already noticed a marked difference.

10 days after the treatment I noticed the hairs coming out by themselves...I can go for a couple of days now without shaving! I predict that I will only need 3 treatments on my face....so I will just use the other treatments for other parts.

I agree that the treatment is uncomfortable....I'm just thankful that they numb the skin first with the ice packs....gawd knows what it would be like without that. (the icepacks bit is even uncomfy but its worth it I guess!!)

If anyone decided to go to the same salon as me, please mention my name (fiona) because I will get money off further treatments!! if you recommend anyone you will benefit too.

You musn't pluck or the laser won't get to those hairs! Unfortunately you have to shave because there needs to be a bit of hair there as the laser is attracted to the pigment of the hair.

Good luck with it! I've had two treatments now and am very happy with the result (and thank goodness it didnt hurt as much as the first time!)

Sort of knew you were to going to say dont pluck, as I plucked heartily this morning LOL, not bothered, as there will plent more back with its usual venegance before Saturday afternoon. I think I will resist the night before my usual shave, and it will certainly be prickly for them to see.

Oh a life without shaving.....I wouldnt ask for riches and fame if only this problem would go away. For good. Apart from the safety and welfare of my family (who I think I keep this fairly secret from...) its the only thing I pray for at night....to be hair free!

Im gutted, gutted, gutted. I went for my appointment at the Laser Clinic in Southampton last Saturday. Spoke to a lovely young lady, who took one look at me and said that Laser wouldnt work for me as the hairs, the prickly horrible hairs, were too light and the laser wouldnt pick it up!
I practically begged her to try. She wouldnt. She said she was afraid to give me false hope.

Now I respect her advice, after all she could have took my money and convinced me it would work. But it left me feeling as low as could be, that was my last chance, so to speak.

She said laser would work better on dark hairs, my hairs are light brown, same colour for example, as my eyebrows. She said she couldnt see it all unless she was practically nose to nose.

Now then, the big question is this...do I go for a second opinion at Salisbury Laser Clinic ?

What would you ladies do ?

    Jemima,

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. But its good that they were honest with you. I have read many times that the lasers are only attracted to the dark pigment in hair so it would have been a waste of money to try it. At least they were good enough to not lead you down a path that wouldn't have worked.

But listen, all is not lost! Electrolysis is just as effective as laser and they have made lots of advancements in that as well, a lot of beauty clinics offer it now and i'm sure the price is the same. Have you ever tried it? It might be worth going for a test patch to see how you feel with that.

And listen, i've had both electrolysis and laser treatments and they both hurt equally, trust me!!! With electrolysis you can take stuff to help numb the area, so I really think it might be worth a shot!

Good luck and let me know what you decide!

    Best wishes,

i've heard that aculight which is like laser works on all hair colours except white hair and you have light brown hair so it should work on you. I wanted to get it done on my face but they said the hair on my face was white and it wouldn't work, even though I think it looks blonde and I was gutted aswell , but I think that it would work with you.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks girls, will have to look into Aculight. As for electrolysis, been there done that, it lasts for a few hours and then it starts to prick its way back, I couldn't believe it. Also she burned my face so badly last year Ive still got the burn marks. When I went back to show her, the Manageress reassured me it would eventually fade and offered me all sorts of facials. I refused, I was too upset. I eventually found another salon, it was explained to me that I had got galvanised burn marks....Im sure thats what she said anyway.

I spend endless amounts on concealer, and makeup, and Dermablend camaflague makeup, but it lasts a few hours only.

My only consolation is that the hair on my face/chin/lip is light, but it sure is prickly! And the lovely consultant at the laser clinic said that if she passed me in the street she wouldnt look at me twice....lets be honest girls, we do look at other womens faces dont we ?..... and close up its hard to see, and what I imagine is large burnt dart holes on my cheeks, is actually a few blemishes. But it still gets me down.

How come they can send a man to the moon and yet we are still struggling with facial hair ? :p

Do any of you know if it is possible to have this treament if you are diabetic. There are many treatments that are a contraindication of diabetes such as waxing and a therapist will not do it. I think it is because your skin is so much thinner. Are any of you ladies diabetic and having the treatment done?
