Lightbulb laser hair removal and glucophage

I was wondering if any of you who have had laser hair removal are also on glucophage (metformin), and whether you had any problems with being sensitive to the laser since glucophage can cause photosensitivity? I am scheduled for my first treatment (Lightsheer) in a couple of weeks, and I've been reading as much as I can. I happened to run across a warning about certain medications which can cause photosensitivity, making a patient more sensitive to laser treatment. Are any of you who have had the laser treatments also taking metformin? Thanks so much for any info you can share about this.

Lightbulb gluc and laser

I had "laser" (it was actually epilight) while I was on the glucophage and I never really had any side effects. I think the fact that your treatments are spaced out 4-6 weeks and aren't really that long (15-20min.) contributes to it.

What I will tell you is that I did not have success with this type of treatment. Grant it - my unwanted hair isn't any thicker or more than it was before -- but it was a total waste of money for me....a lot of money!! like $ 2500.00 and I didn't have it to spare! So, it doesn't work for everyone. I had my hopes up and was greatly disappointed afterwards.

Please don't take this as though I'm trying to turn you off to the experience, but I just feel as though if my hopes weren't so high as to start with....I wouldn't have been so disappointed in the end. I went to a highly reputable establishment and was all gung-ho at first, but then as my treatments were over and I was in my maintenance phase (f/u treatments every 2 months).....I was noticing that it didn't do sqaut for me.

I am currently going through laser surgery and let me tell you that it has definatley worked for me! It depends on the laser that is being used on you and you want to go to someone who has been doing it for a considerable amount of time who has a lot of experience. Also your skin pigmentation plays a major role in having it done. Some lasers are sensitve only to lighter skin or darker skin and if you are not using the right one the hair will come back. I am fair skinned and I beleive a laser called the Alexandria was used on me. Do as much research as you can and try to speak with people who have used the person who will be treating you to see how they're experience was. I had a lot of facial hair on the chin and neck area. I had a seroious complex about it and had to shave every day. Having fair skin and jet black hair, by the time I shaved that following evening I would have a 5 O'clock shadow. I had to do something because it had me to the point where I didn't even want to go out in public to avoid the stares. Now, I am totally hairless after 7 months of treatments! I am so happy and my life has changed. I hope this helps you out and good luck with your treatment!

Thank you both for your replies. I have been doing a lot of research and reading a lot on two hair removal message boards. I know that Epilight sucked, and doesn't seem to be used anymore much thank goodness. The newer machines like LightSheer and EasyGlide offer much more positive results. I have two appointments, one at a laser center that is at a hospital that offers EasyGlide, and another at a well known and respected spa that uses LightSheer. I have heard positive things about both of these machines, but I know the most important thing to consider is the clinician using them. I called and talked directly to the clinician at the spa and interviewed her about her experience, etc. I got a good feeling about her after that conversation. There is a huge difference in price between a physicians office and a spa. The spa charges $55 per treatment, and it's more like $200 at the other place per treatment (the average amount of treatments for the chin area, which is the only place I'm having done, is 6).

I had electrolysis for two years with no improvement. That was 20 years ago, and that was when I was diagnosed with my PCOS. The electrologist sent me to an endo. I am currently on 2000 mg of glucophage (for two years now), I'm using the IR diet in conjunction with Weight Watchers (which has helped me lose 87 pounds), and I'm feeling like maybe laser will work for me. I will keep you all posted.
