Default Is Laser hair removal permanent?

I have pcos and I shave every other day, I am so tire of shaving so I got a great deal at Florida center, its $1000 for a lifetime treatment. But I was wondering if LHR shows permanent results with patients with pcos.

No, laser hair removal has not be deemed "permanent" by the FDA. It is approved for permanent hair reduction. Many women on the board have had great success with laser and others not so much. It depends on many factors from what type of skin/hair you have to if you have your hormones under control. You will need approximately 6-8 sessions per area and will need "touch-ups" ever 6 months or so. According to The Mayo Clinic, lasers can reduce hair counts 40% to 80%. Facial hair on women is often lighter and finer than on the body, and this hair may not respond as well to the laser because it targets pigment (color) in the hair follicle.

Hi just a bit of insight, i've been getting lazer treatment on my lip chin and facial area for over a year now, I got it for 550e euros and that's 5 treatments for 110e each. They offer a guarantee of any treatments needed for 2 years after you're 5 sessions are complete, however if it's due to a hormone imbalance they normally don't give you this. I was lucky enough to meet a really nice lady who offered me this guarantee. It's been over a year now and i've never looked back. Obviously everyone is different but i'd quite dark hair that was really obvious and it now comes back really fine and fair best money i've ever spent. I'm considering getting my tummy done aswell as the meds aren't doing anything miracilous. I wouldn't rule it out it's definitely one of the more positive solutions. Let me know how you get on xxxx

I'll tell you my experience, it didn't work for me. I'm extremely fair-skinned, but with very coarse, black facial hair. I was told I was the best candidate because of my fair skin and dark hair. I had this done on my face, chin and chest. After my sessions were done (it was about 6-8 months), I was ecstatic. I had smooth skin, I didn't have to shave. But that only lasted about a year. Then the hair came back with a vengence. My hormones had gotten out of whack again (the doctor at the clinic knew I had PCOS but didn't tell me that the results wouldn't be permanent if I had PCOS). So there went $1200. So if you do try laser, make sure your hormones are normal and stay normal, otherwise your money will be going down the drain. Good luck to you.

In your case, 'it worked'. The fact that your hormones changed, doesn't really reflect on the efficacy of the treatments.

As pp mentioned: Laser treatment cannot be called 'permanent' by anyone for anyone.

I have to respectfully disagree with this.

Most reputable places tell you that you'll need around 6 to 8 sessions - spread out in 6 week intervals, so it takes quite a bit of time.

If someone is actively working on getting their labs back into normal ranges, this will give you that time. Your labs don't have to be normal to start treatment.

PLUS, the mental 'uplift' from having reduced facial hair may be WELL worth it to many women.

Even if I knew that every 8 months following completion of my 6-8 sessions, I'd still invest in laser. For me it's been worth it.

That said, it's also worth it to make a very REAL and consistent effort to work to normalize your hormones: started with diet and VERY regular exercise.
