Unhappy Laser Hair Removal, Successful?

I am thinking of doing laser hair removal, is it sucessful for people with PCOS or does more just pop up after awhile. Don't want to spend $1000 to have hair again a year later. will just keep plucking/shaving away.

I went from having 3 - 5 hairs under my chin a few years ago to having probably 70 - 100 on the under the jawline.

Just want to blast all the hair below my eyebrows away. Heck I shave my legs and by 5 pm all stubbley. Thanks Italian genes....

I started laser hair removal on my entire face in March of 2007. I just had my final treatment in Dec '08. While I still have some fine hairs, it has made a tremendous difference.

I would not even wear a ponytail in public before having the treatments. I had a 5 o'clock shadow by 10 am.

I wouldn't trade my experience with it for the world. I feel like a different person now.

Good luck!!

I did my face as well as bikini line and stomach. I had many treatments on my face and it's still not totally smooth, but I'm still glad I did it. The hairs that come back are not as dark/noticeable. I do shave everyday with an electric razor but I don't have to do it twice a day like I used to.
As for the bikini line/stomach; it worked like a dream. I have a rare, stray hair every once in a while but I don't have to shave it anymore at all. If I had more $, I would get my whole leg done.
I went to American Laser and paid for 6 treatments and they had a guarantee that if you were not happy, you could continue to come back for a year after the last treatment for free. For my face I did use the "freebies," but for the rest I didn't need to.
Good luck,

I unfortunately, was one of those women that laser did not really work well for. I am Italian by decent and have had PCOS since I was 18. Laser worked great during the time I was having treatments... it was like I was a new person for those 8 months of treatment and then after a year or so after my last treatment 50% of the hair grew back (granted it was finer but still there). If you don't have your hormone levels in-check the hair will grow back. Laser is approved for hair reduction by the FDA not permanent removal. I did really enjoy those few months/ up to 2 years of less hair.. and for me, it was worth it. However, I wouldn't invest the money in it again! I am trying the electrolysis route now...
Good Luck!!!

I thought about it, I even went to a few consults but I also did a lot of researching too, there are woman out there who ended up with scars and skin discoloration because they didn’t go to a professional doctor or such who is properly trained, so if you are thinking about it, really research where you go, see if you can get any feedback from previous patients. fyi if someone says that yeah, after all your treatments it will be completely gone, don’t bother with them, no one can guarantee that even on a healthy hormonal woman. I have been told by doctors and a few nice technicians that because of my problem I would be better to wait until I got the hormones under control a bit that way I would get better results. doing it can make a difference, but it could also take more treatments, it’s a really expensive process so personally I would recommend waiting until you are on the meds to help with the hair and have been on those meds long enough to see a difference before trying it.. it just seems like you’d get better results for your moneys worth and hopefully manage to blow most the hair away.. that’s just my opinion though

Hi Capple 23 and all...

I was reading the messages and would like to check if anyone had more good updates, the laser type and maybe the name of the centers. I'm going back to the us and looking for info. I had ALC... it helped but then I stopped... trying again to get rid of this black, thick hairs... errrggg! lol

I actually have been wondering the same, I went for about 3-4 treatments and it didn't seem to work. But I also have a red tinge to my hair, and so I was told it needs to be black. I feel its dark, but maybe not dark enough?
any one know?

My sister has just had her first two treatments of lazer hair removal and she already seeing an amazing difference! Id suggest it to anyone from what Im seeing so early on.
She is pale skinned and very dark haired, which is perfect for this kind of hair removal. She has a full on beard and side burns and would be shaving twice a day but now has to only shave once every two days and its getting less
Hope this helps anyone wanting to know what kind of effects it has.

Hi there, I have only done one treatment (upper lip & chin) & I'm extremely pleased with the results. I had PCOS since I was 15. I was put on birth control to control my hormones but as I got into my mid 20s. I noticed more hair growth. They switch my birth control for another one. I was ok with it but still had hair.
Last year my DH and I decided to start a family so I went off birth control. My hair growth is ridiculous!..I had to pluck every single day for about 40 min. and even then I could still see some hair it was very thick. So I went for my consultation.
I had a patch test done on my leg to see how my skin would react to it. I was a perfect candidate I'm fair with pitch black thick hair. I had that done in late Jan. and no hair has grown since. I was so impress with it that I decided to do my upper lip & chin (my biggest "problem areas"). I must tell you it hurts!..I highly recommend using an anesthetic cream to numb your upper lip, the chin was ok.
Try to get it done on a a friday or weekend because you'll need a few days to recover.
I did it on a Sunday and ended up missing 2 days off work afterwards. My face was swollen, red & full of black dots. It looked horrible!
but my the 3rd day it was clearing up by Thursday my face was back to normal a bit tender but it looked good. It's been 2 weeks and I have a few hair growing (finer hair). I can't believe I can get away without plucking! **note- that I only went after 2 days of no plucking, I just couldn't wait the month of hair growth prior to the appoint. If you don't mind do it you would have better results**..It saves me tones of time in the morning and my confidence is back. My next appoint. is the 1st week of Sept. can't wait.
To those who have experience darker hair growth since the treatment - Not sure if this is accurate but my laser lady said NOT TO SHAVE in between treatments. I know a lot of places say it's ok. She said it makes the lighter peachfuss hair into full grown hair afterwards. So she said to cut th darker hairs with scissors if I can, to avoid more hair growth.
Hope This helps, I know what it's like to hide your face everyday because you think others will see it. It very painful (emotionally to go through this)
I would recommend you go to several places, try to get feedback from clients, maybe even pictures of what they have done. I went to several places and I ended up finding this Wonderful Lady, who seemed very knowledgable and kind.
Good Luck, I wish you the Best!

I went for my 2nd treatment 3 weeks ago, and I am sssoooo pleased with the results! I havent shaved since!!! I was one who had the 5 o'clock shadow and always had my hair hiding my face, ever since I started the treatment I have cut my hair, dyed my hair and wear my hair up. I say go for it!

I am still in the process of having it done on my face (about the 4th treatment) and I LOVE the results! There has been a dramatic reduction in hair and all the rest of the remaining hair seems to grow back slower. I know that because of hormone imbalances, there is the possibility that the hair might start to come back after an extended period of time, but I would rather spend $100 once or twice a year for touchups then go back to having a full beard
